Xherdan Shaqiri linked to Liverpool transfer, is it about hiring all mini Messis, when you can’t get the real Messi

Xherdan Shaqiri is surely not going to stay with Stoke City after relegation. The Potters will have to deal with the championship without their star player if they want to get back to Premier League next season.

Shaqiri has his best years ahead and he couldn’t waste his time playing for a championship club. The 26-year-old Swiss star knows his strength and looking forward to hearing from the Premier League’s A-list clubs.

Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City, and Everton have been already linked to the star, but the news in England is circulating that Liverpool is also interested in the ‘Alpine Messi’.

Shaqiri links to Liverpool transfer raises a question in our mind. Is it about hiring all mini Messis, when you can’t get the real Messi?

Jurgen Klopp already has Egyptian Messi in his side as Mohamed Salah. He also worked with Brazilian Messi when Philippe Coutinho was playing for Liverpool, and now he wants to work with the ‘Alpine Messi’.

Xherdan Shaqiri also known as ‘Magic Dwarf’ hasn’t had a career he expected. The Swiss international has raw talent and every one of us has witnessed his superiority on certain occasions. I can still picturize his goal against Poland in last 16 of Euro 2016, that bicycle-kick. You only witness goal like that on rare occasions and Shaqiri has got the talent to deliver the moment like those more often.

When the interviewer asked him that his bicycle-kick was his best goal ever, lively Shaqiri answered, “You don’t know me very well, obviously. I always score nice goals.”

You can see the confidence in the player. He has delivered some spectacles throughout his career. The only thing missing in his career is consistency and a manager who can make use of his true potential. He has been to Basel, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, and Stoke City in his short career. He needs stability at the top.

A player who can make room for himself in Bayern ranks goes to Inter and then Stoke only tells his demise. Magic Dwarf need to find his flair and he couldn’t get a better manager than Jurgen Klopp to get the best out of him.

German manager is known for making an ordinary player look extraordinary. Mohamed Salah wasn’t a force at Roma and Chelsea, he got reckon at Liverpool. Sadio Mane wasn’t the player big teams were ready to bet their money. Firmino is still not Brazil’s first choice no.9, but Klopp made the attacking trio a force to reckon in Europe.

Shaqiri can challenge Salah on the right wing. He will be a good substitution as well when Salah won’t be able to give his best. Alpine Messi and Egyptian Messi together can be a lethal force to reckon if they mold in a better shape and that’s where Jurgen Klopp role will play a bigger role.

Some players develop in their late 20’s. Salah only find his footings right when he came to Liverpool. Shaqiri may be the next Reds’ star. He has the ability. FIFA’s official website describes him as “unpredictable on the ball, adept with both feet, clinical in front of goal and possessing excellent vision. If he ever comes close to combining all his prowess, he can definitely challenge the Messi.

It took Salah only one season to earn comparison with Messi. Shaqiri might also be a season away from earning comparison. He has lived the life of mini version of Messi, he only now needs to prove his mettle at the top club.

If Liverpool hires him, it will be his second chance to shine at the top level. He has that chance with Bayern Munich, but that opportunity goes wasted. This time, if he gets a better opportunity, he’ll need to make the most of it.

When a club like Liverpool come calling, you don’t say no. Especially not, when a manager like Jurgen Klopp will be guiding you to make one of the world’s best.
