Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly linked to Barcelona transfer
Barcelona is in hunt of an experienced central-defender and Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly name has resurfaced. Barcelona scout chief in Italy Ariedo Braida was found in stands at Sao Paolo watching Liverpool Vs Napoli game on Wednesday night.
Mundo Deportivo reports, “Braida’s objective is to acquire the services of Kalidou Koulibaly for Barcelona. Senegalese centre-back is chief target because he is physical, proven, and holds a French passport. They are tracking the player from a long time, but the only problem is price Napoli is going to ask for him. He will cost at least €65 million to any club who wants to acquire his services from Napoli.”
Koulibaly agent Bruno Satin has also confirmed Barcelona interest in the player. Barca Blaugranes sources claim as Satin said, “I confirm the interest of Barca. I’m sure Barcelona are interested because on Wednesday i talk to Braida who was with me at the San Paulo.”
Barcelona have a real problem in defence as they currently have only three recognized central-defenders in their team. A suspension to any one of them doubled with another of them bad game seriously giving trouble time to Camp Nou giants.
Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet were sent off in back to back games respectively in La Liga and Uefa Champions League games. Thankfully, they earned suspension in different leagues and Barcelona were happy to use them vice-versa in UEFA Champions League and La Liga.
Suspension problem was taken care efficiently but the real problem arises in Gerard Pique’s lack of form. Barcelona’s defensive pillar since Carles Puyol retirement has been criticized for his performances in recent games.
His let off against Girona, Leganes, and Athletic Bilbao get noticed. It was lesser of a concern in 4-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur but problem persists. The problem is clear there in Barcelona defence. Barcelona scouts are constantly monitoring a good centre-back with European passports to fill in the spot.
They can’t go for a non-European player because of non-European restrictions. They are only allowed to play three non-European players in their playing XI. It makes playing XI combination very difficult for them which boast of too many South Americans in the ranks.
Kalidou Koulibaly is a top choice knowing he is a proven world-class defender and holds a French passport. Barcelona get rid of Yerry Mina this summer to balance the non-European players in the squad. They can’t go for a non-European player once again facing the same problem to field out their best playing XI.
