Manchester United reportedly interested in buying Douglas Costa. Reports in Italy and England is circulating fast that Jose Mourinho wants the player in his team for next season. The Brazilian winger has become hot property after he replaces Paulo Dybala from Juventus’ playing XI in the latter half of the 2017/18 season and performed incredibly.
Douglas Costa is currently playing for Juventus on loan from Bayern Munich and they have an option to buy the player before June 30 for the transfer fee of 40 million. Juventus hasn’t shown eagerness to make the deal permanent because they are vying a big money move for a central midfielder, but Manchester United interest has added a twist.
If Juve buys the player for €40m and they don’t want to continue with him, they can sell the player to Manchester United for €85m. However, it will be on Manchester United to make the move. It will be a double-edged sword for Juventus if United fails to make a commitment. Otherwise, Bayern Munich will walk away with all the profit, if Manchester United directly approaches Bayern Munich after June 30.
Douglas Costa can do special things. Bayern Munich saw that spark when he was with Shakhtar Donetsk, and buys him for €30m in 2015. He is a good dribbler and crosser of the ball and he can score sensational goals in crunch time. It was only because Bayern couldn’t field the player regularly in his team in his right position, felt the need to offload him.
They made a switch last season offloading him on loan to Juventus and he delivered for the Serie A champion. He was instrumental in their seventh successive Serie A title win. He scored 4 goals and assisted another 13 in 31 Serie A appearances.
It helped him to earn the limelight. He stole the limelight from Bianconeri star man Paulo Dybala, who has a bleak second-half in the season. Dybala started very well scoring 10 goals in his first 6 appearances, but later he vanished. It was Costa who emerged as the real hero for Juventus in their troubled time.
Now, he is Manchester United’s priority. Jose Mourinho wants him in his team. The Sun and Daily Express have already given their opinion and now Italian news agency Corriere dello Sport has also confirmed the news.
It left Juventus in an uncomfortable situation. They can’t resist the player even if they don’t want him for the next season. They will lose €45m of instant profit if they don’t make their move for Douglas Costa permanent. And if they go for a permanent deal, Manchester United might not go after him afterward.
Bayern Munich, on the other hand, would like to delay the process. If Juve failed to make the Douglas Costa move permanent, Bavarians will be able to sell the player for €85m to Manchester United. It will be a win-win situation for them.
