Exequiel Palacios’ transfer to Real Madrid is almost certain
River Plate’s 20-year-old midfielder Exequiel Palacios is in limelight before Copa Libertadores final second-leg, which will be played at Real Madrid’s home Santiago Bernabeu. Palacios has been heavily linked to a move to Real Madrid, and the players’agent and River Plate’s club president all aren’t shying away from giving details about the transfer of their player to the Real Madrid.
Palacios’ agent Renato Corsi said as Managing Madrid reports, “Palacios, as a River Plate fan and as a player, wanted to play the final in El Monumental (referring to River Plate’s home stadium). With this problem, he’s also said that he’d like to play in such a beautiful stadium and country as Spain. I hope this can become true and that he can become a Madrid player.”
The player’s agent also added, “Clubs haven’t talked yet. Madrid are being very classy and honest with us. Both teams agreed to talk after the final. They will talk about it in Madrid in the upcoming days. There are many teams interested but Madrid have the edge.”
And now, River Plate’s president Rodolfo D’Onofrio has talked about Palacios’ potential transfer to Madrid in his interview with Marca. He said, “I wrote to Florentino Perez a few days ago to thank him for having us at the Bernabeu. We are not currently talking about Palacios, but about twenty days ago Butragueno spoke to Enzo Francescoli about the player, but a view to continuing negotiations later.”
He adds, “The economic differences between Real Madrid and River Plate are very large. It’s very difficult to retain a player, but history tells us that the player sees a future opportunity and we can’t cut his career. The club can’t be closed and must open themselves up to negotiations. That a player from River goes to Madrid is also prestigious for River.”
D’Onofrio also talked about the maturity level of Exequiel Palacios. He said, “He’s at great level, but I think it would be good to play for one more year in Argentina. However, that’s not my decision. We will negotiate, Madrid know that. He is very young, but he’s very serious, and seems older than he is. A very complete player. If they really love him, the move would be ideal for both the player and Real Madrid.”
Real Madrid is struggling to find their next generation of midfield trio. Casemiro, Luka Modric, and ToniKroos haven’t played much together this season. They are looking for their options in Dani Ceballos, Lucas Vazquez, and Marcos Llorente, but they haven’t provided much depth. Exequiel Palacios if arrives in January, he may prove his worth for starting place next season.
