Malcom transfer, AS Roma, Barcelona, Summer Transfers 2018/19

Barcelona signed Malcom from Bordeaux hijacking his AS Roma’s move

Barcelona signed Malcom Filipe Silva de Oliveira from Bordeaux hijacking his AS Roma’s move. There were reports in France and Italy that Bordeaux winger Malcom was heading towards Italy’s capital, but Barcelona signs him hijacking his AS Roma’s move.

Brazil’s UOL Esporte reports that Roma had agreed on Monday to acquire the Brazilian winger services and awaited him in Italy’s capital for medical and contract signing before Barcelona emerged as potential suitor.

Bordeaux and AS Roma’s deal were almost finalized for the player before Barcelona came hunting to Bordeaux’s door. Barcelona were in rush to make him their third signing of the summer after their third straight failed bid for Chelsea’s winger Willian.

Catalan giants are paying €41 million to Bordeaux to acquire 24-year-old services, and there will be €1 million performance based variables. Barca’s offer was lot bigger for Ligue 1 club to say no to them and they rejected AS Roma’s €35 million deal.

Malcom signed with Barcelona for next five seasons till 2022/23. Barcelona’s official website reports, “Malcom will arrive in Barcelona on Tuesday and will have the traditional photo taken by the club badge outside the club offices at 8:00 pm CEST. The Brazilian player will undergo a medical on Wednesday morning before joining the 2018 FC Barcelona US Tour sponsored by Rakuten.”

Barcelona’s transfer business is once again at scrutiny after their last three seasons poor business in transfer market. Nobody expected Malcom to land at Camp Nou, but Willian’s failed bid helped Barca to do a purse-friendly business acquiring a much younger player.

Willian would have cost Barcelona €80 million. The 30-year-old Brazilian would have been a costly buy with his inconsistent performances for the club and the country. Blaugranas looked elsewhere and they got the good deal in signing 24-year-old Malcolm.

Barcelona have already acquired Clement Lenglet and Arthur Melo this summer before acquiring Malcom. They also have got backing from their B side as they brought left-back Marc Cucurella, central midfielder Carles Alena, and left-winger Jose Manuel Arnaiz to their senior side.

It’s good to see Barcelona coming back into the mix with La Masia’s graduate promotion to senior side along with outsiders. They are back into the business. Three outsiders and three La Masia’s graduate acquisition is the perfect example to run their transfer business.
