Torino snatched a draw against Juventus to delay their sixth consecutive Serie A title

Juventus, Torino, Gonzalo Higuain, Adam Ljajic, SerieA, Derby della Mole

Juventus needed a victory against Torino to clinch their sixth Scudetto in a row with three games remaining, but Adam Ljajic’s free kick for the visitors postponed Bianconeri’s Serie A title celebration. Derby della Mole ended 1-1, with Gonzalo Higuain’s late stoppage time strike, but visitors were happy to end Juventus two years winning run at home.

Bianconeri had registered 33 consecutive victory at Juventus Stadium in the League before Torino ends their winning run. Ljajic free kick was good enough to seal the match in favour of Torino, but a late drama and controversial red card to Afriyie Acquah left the visitors down to ten men, and Higuain took the advantage in closing seconds.

Both of the yellow shown to Afriyie were controversial, and Torino were furious over the sending off. It could have been Torino’s first victory at Juventus Stadium since 1995, if they would have been able to pull the victory.

Napoli’s 3-1 victory over Cagliari had brought them within eight points of gap from Juventus, and with three games left to play, mathematically Juventus cannot be crowned Champion this week. Although, next week’s Roma vs Juventus fixture will decide the Championship. Third placed Roma will be visiting AC Milan this week, and they must be looking forward to earn a victory to keep alive their title challenge.
