Napoli can’t afford to slip up this time in Serie A race. They finished 3rd last season, and have been runners-up in the season before, and overall finished in top three in five of the last seven seasons. They have started well this season and they need to capitalize on it going forward. They have registered seven straight victories to sit at top of the Serie A table, and they need to maintain the momentum when going gets tough.

Napoli is looking more and more like it could win its first title since Diego Maradona led the club to its only two Serie A championships in 1987 and 1990. It’s 28 years of wait and it shouldn’t stay longer and their performances in recent years deserve a championship.

They have the best squad to do so, and the good thing is that they have retained their most of the players. Dries Mertens, Lorenzo Insigne, Marek Hamsik, Jose Callejon, Kalidou Koulibaly, Piotr Zielinski, Pepe Reina, Arkadiusz Milik, Raul Albiol, Faouzi Ghoulam, Emanuele Giaccherini and Christian Maggio are familiar faces for Partenopei from sometimes.

They are good in attack with Dries Mertens, Lorenzo Insigne, and Jose Callejon leading the forward line. They have scored 25 goals already this season in seven Serie A outings and conceded only 5 five. Naples have produced at least three goals in each of the league games this season.

Juventus (33 Serie A title winner) own the Serie A title from last six seasons, and the joint second best both Milan clubs (18 Serie A titles) have been restructured under new management. It can be said that Napoli has lost their best opportunity to win the championship, but club captain Marek Hamsik thinks differently.

Serie A title competition might have become more intense with Internazionale & AC Milan becoming stronger, and AS Roma & Lazio competing as well for championship, but Partenopei still believe they have the best chance to win the league in 2017/18 season.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports as per Hamsik statement to Sport.Aktuality, “The time to win is now, this is my strongest Napoli. We started well, with seven victories in seven matches, and we are happy with the start. The manager has given us an identity, we’re working with him for three years and I think that this is the right moment to win.”

Slovakian captain is one goal shy of club legend and record goal scorer Diego Maradona, but he is not in a hurry to achieve the feat. He has 114 goals to his name lying one behind Maradona 115 goals. He jokes and complains about being replaced by manager Maurizio Sarri after half time but he respects his decision.

He added, “Sarri often replaces me out of the game to keep me fresh or even because I’m not playing well, but it’s fine right now. To conquer the record of Maradona, I have a full season available, it won’t be a problem.”

Sarri himself is little cautious as he stated, “It’s been six years that people have been saying we could bother Juventus but in the end they still win, which means that they’re still a step above everyone else.”

“We’ve played seven matches, which is just 40 days of the season. Let’s see how things develop long-term. Anyone can do it for a month, few for six months and only one squad for a year.”
