SSC Napoli is in search for their first Scudetto title since 1990, and they have their best chances this season. They would have gone seven points clear of Juventus at top with their victory over them on Friday night, but they suffered a close 1-0 defeat against the Serie A six time running defending champion.
Former Napoli man Gonzalo Higuain was once again the culprit to hand Napoli defeat against the Bainconeri as they close the gap at top to one point. Maurizio Sarri side suffered their first defeat of the season in table topper clash, but he continues to insist that Napoli dominated Juventus despite losing 1-0.
He said as Football Italia reports, “We dominated Juve in every conceivable way and didn’t allow them much, but at this moment we aren’t as sharp upfront and not transforming this dominance into goals. I complimented the team and if we lose one Serie A game after nine months, that’s not a disaster. With a bit of sharpness, we would’ve won. I don’t want to see any heads drop.”
“Conceding a goal so early made it easier for Juventus to sit back and go on the counter. They are strong physically and know how to soak up pressure. We know that we have got three world class strikers and will get them back to their best soon. For the moment, we’ve just got to grit out teeth and push on. We are still playing excellent football.”
Napoli striker Lorenzo Insigne was playing the game with injury and he wasted lot of chances during the game. Napoli could have won the game if Insigne had played the game being fully fit. The result brought twist in Serie A title race.
It was a one way battle at top with Napoli leading the table with four points cushion before Friday. Now, the gap between Napoli and Juventus is one point and the margin of error is less. Roma also narrowed the gap with their 3-1 victory over Spal, whereas Inter Milan will make sure they cut their gap with victory over Chievo.
