Icardi opened the scoring ricocheting a Banega free kick, which came off from the post and Inter captain leads the home side. Icardi had another in his bags quickly from a headed effort from a corner ball, within nine minutes Argentine scored a hat-trick and two of them came from the assist of his Argentine teammate Ever Banega.
When Icardi ends his night on scoresheet, Banega took over him. Argentine attacking midfielder first goal came in from Antonio Candreva cross from the right and it only needed his footing from close range to convert it into a goal. Seven minutes later in an identical move, Banega got his second from some seven yards. Inter Milan were 5-0 up in first half itself.
Remo Freuler clinical finish earned Atalanta a consolation goal just before the half time, but Inter hammering was still not over. Former Atalanta man Roberto Gagliardiani added another in second half to make it 6-1 for Inter Milan and it didn’t much time for Banega to complete his hat-trick to make it 7-1. It was a complete surprise performance from the both side, whereas one returned to earth after dreaming high of Champions League place finish, another rise on the occasion to give a lesson to his inferior rival who were annoying them with their superior Serie A position.
