Chelsea 2017/18 season is going nowhere. It’s highly unlikely that they will qualify for Champions League next season and their only hope for European football is with Europa League finish. They need to hold the fifth place they currently occupy on the Premier League points table, but Blues were on verge of making a shocking blunder. They were trailing 2-0 against relegation threaten Southampton, before super-sub Olivier Giroud came to rescue them. Chelsea avoided a sure defeat against Saints with Olivier Giroud’s double coming off the bench and Eden Hazard’s goal within ten minutes after the hour mark.
Southampton was leading 2-0 from Dusan Tadic and Jan Bednarek strikes at St. Mary’s Stadium before Conte replaces Alvaro Morata to Olivier Giroud. Former Arsenal man is still the second choice at Chelsea, but he kind of enjoys his super-sub role. Frenchman coming from the bench change the match in Chelsea favour.
“I used to say football is an everlasting new beginning. You always need to question yourself, I’ve been through some difficulties in my career. I try to comeback stronger and it happened today.”

Super-sub Giroud is very good with headers and that display quickly came into notice. He headed in from Marcos Alonso cross in the 71st minute. It gave Chelsea a comeback possibility and four minutes later Hazard leveled the score from his composed finish from Willian’s cut-back.
Already scored his 16th league goal, it was Hazard’s time to contribute to his assists. Chelsea star man crossed a ball into the area which Southampton players failed to clear and Giroud capitalize on the loose ball. Frenchman slotted in the low corner to change the match in Chelsea favour.
Southampton will continue to struggle in the relegation zone with their 28 points, whereas Chelsea will hope for Tottenham Hotspur to lose points against Manchester City. They currently sit 7 points behind Spurs on Premier League points table at fifth.
