Premier League 2018/19 title is expected to be Manchester City Vs Liverpool
It’s too early to decide the winners and even conclude the runners-up, but Premier League 2018/19 title is expected to be Manchester City Vs Liverpool. The early signs and both teams strengthen is only bringing us on the conclusion that this time Premier League title race will be between the noisy neighbors of Manchester and Merseyside.
Unai Emery’s Arsenal era hasn’t started as expected. Two defeats in two games already set them aside. Chelsea is looking good under Maurizio Sarri but former Napoli boss himself is not considering his side as capable of winning title. Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United couldn’t even take care of Brighton and had a lackluster victory over Leicester City. It rules them out from title race as well and Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur have too many off-the-field distractions to keep them away from title race.
It left two of the strong candidates Liverpool and Manchester City to fight for the Premier League 2018/19 title. Whereas Manchester City is looking strong to defend their title, Liverpool is ready to take the fight until last match day this time.
There is no comparison between Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. City is definitely stronger on paper but Liverpool have shown that on their day they have got no match. This season they have brought in reinforcement in Nabi Keita, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri, and Alisson Becker as well.
Reds are looking better equipped to deal with their mid-season tiredness. Their only concern will be injuries which have ruined their progress in last two seasons must not halt their progress this season.
On the other hand, there will be psychological pressure to maintain neck-to-neck difference on points table. Liverpool will be in more pressure situation than Manchester City because they’ll be facing two top six teams before they face Manchester City on October 7. City hasn’t got any fixture lined-up before that against the top six which is always an advantage to keep moving up on points table.
Liverpool have more chances to drop points than Manchester City before they met for the return leg on New year’s Eve. Reds will be facing Leicester City, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur, all away before they face Manchester City on October 7. On the other hand, Citizens have only two away games lined-up in Wolves and Cardiff before they face Liverpool. Their home games are also against Newcastle United, Fulham, and Brighton.
If you consider the risk, Manchester City will have six points advantage over Liverpool before they meet at Anfield. After that, Citizens will also be playing only three games against top six sides in Tottenham Hotspur(A), derby against Manchester United(H), and Chelsea(A). But, Liverpool will have difficult task again facing Arsenal twice in the meantime alongside Merseyside derby and facing Manchester United.
If Manchester City leads Liverpool on New Year’s Eve, we can draw a conclusion that Manchester City will defend their title. Because, both of the title favourite won’t be playing against each-other in second-half of the campaign to be back on level term. They’ll be totally depended on their own results to make or break their campaign.
