Olivier Giroud’s late header rescues a point for Arsenal

Arsenal, Olivier Giroud, Southampton, Premier League

Southampton challenged the visitors Arsenal at home on Sunday afternoon. Charlie Austin gave the Saints an early lead at St. Mary’s Stadium in third minute, which Arsenal chases throughout the match. Gunners found a rescue in 88th minute as substitute Olivier Giroud scored the equalizing header.

Giroud is used to producing the masterstroke for Arsenal. He had done it in past and he is doing again. The Frenchman has come off from the bench on many occasions and have scored a vital goal for the Londoners. Today, it was once again a special moment and Giroud scored a flying header to earn a point for the trailing Arsenal team.

Alexis Sanchez came lively in the game and he produced a cross good enough to find Giroud. The Frenchman didn’t waste any time to head in and earn a draw for the Gunners. Alexandre Lacazatte continues to start for Arsenal and Giroud is still playing as a substitute, but he finds enough goals to make his inclusion count in the Gunners’ side.

The draw left Arsenal out of top four as they lose two vital points against the Mauricio Pellegrino side. Chelsea also loses 1-0 against West Ham United on Saturday, giving room to Liverpool to eclipse ahead on points table. Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed a great afternoon against Stoke City as they registered a 5-1 thumping victory over them.

Premier League top four is going to be a tough battle, but Manchester City continues to prove their supremacy over other sides. The Manchester Derby will decide the Premier League winner if Man City wins late on Sunday, otherwise a Man United victory will keep the title challenge open.

Arsenal is not out of contention and Giroud’s late goals prove that they are a side good enough to win titles. The Premier League invincible side is searching for their first title since 2003/04, but their wait doesn’t seem to last.
