Maurizio Sarri reveals his short and long-term target for Chelsea
Usually, when you lose a match, you don’t talk about your future. You don’t go bragging about your short and long-term target, but Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri was very comfortable to talk about them after tasting his first defeat in Chelsea colors.
Chelsea lost their first match of the season in all competition against Tottenham Hotspur last week, and it came as no surprise for Maurizio Sarri. Former Napoli boss said that it’s perfectly normal to lose a match after 110 days. However, he said that defeat doesn’t hurt but the nature of defeat surely does.
He told as Chelsea official website reports, “We played very badly [against Spurs], a match without determination. But we lost a match after 110 days I think, so the team did very well generally but we have to understand why we played this game without determination. It is not normal.”
Sarri adds, “We lost a match after three-and-a-half months so we have to understand why, especially from the mental point of view. If you have no determination maybe you have no motivation and if you have no motivation, maybe you don’t have a clear target in your mind.”
Chelsea boss has a meeting with each players individually for five or 10 minutes after defeat against Tottenham Hotspur. He said, “I hope I have found reasons. The target is very clear. In the short-term to win something and long-term, to become the best team in Europe.”
Sarri’s immediate problem is to face POAK in Europa League to go on top of the table in his group without injured Eden Hazard and Victor Moses. He will be managing the first game after defeat and he’ll not have his best player available. Then, they’ll return back to Premier League, where Fulham with another legendary Italian manager Claudio Ranieri is ready to test them.
