We are heading into the Manchester derby this weekend on Saturday and it’s expected that Manchester City will win the Premier League title with a victory over their cross-city rival. It’s a game only ranked below Liverpool vs Manchester United game in Premier League, but it’s not giving the goosebumps to watch out despite Man City title credentials.
Manchester City 3-0 midweek defeat against Liverpool in Uefa Champions League quarterfinals first-leg took the limelight away from the Manchester derby. It was expected that Citizens will head into the derby with a positive result against Liverpool and it will put lot more pressure on Manchester United to delay City’s title celebration. Now, City itself faces a challenge to rebuild their moment and here arrives their cross-city rivals Manchester United.
I’m gonna start a petition for Manchester United to give Manchester City a Guard of Honour if they win the league next week at the Manchester Derby.
Who’s signing it with me?

Jose Mourinho may not have a problem with a defeat against Pep Guardiola’s City side, but he’ll make sure his rival doesn’t celebrate a title in front of him. Mourinho is used to ruining title hunters’ campaign and who knows if his team starts winning from there, he may lift the Premier League trophy.
Manchester United still have a slight chance of winning Premier League 2017/18
Guardiola can’t give up Uefa Champions League’s semifinal hope despite being 3-0 down from the first-leg result. The second-leg is yet to play and his team will have home advantage for that in second-leg. Former Barcelona coach must be thinking of giving rest to his key players in order to keep them fit for Liverpool game. He can think about Premier League title later.
Manchester United game is little concern for him because he must be in no hurry to clinch Premier League title. It is almost in his bag. And, when a game can’t be seen from a competitive perspective it doesn’t give you goose bumps no matter how big the competing teams are.
Manchester City have the chance to eclipse a number of Premier League records this season.

However, Jose Mourinho’s reaction may give us something to cheer. United fans have already started to troll Citizens for their failure against Liverpool. They continue to tweet about their handicapped situation against the Reds as they failed to produce a single shot on target. Now, it’s time for Mourinho to react.
The title is not all gone and there is nothing to lose. He must not be defensive against the Guardiola’s fringe attack. He needs to prove that the fight for the title is still on. There is still 21 points to grab with seven games remaining for both Manchester clubs. City is 16 points ahead of United, but if they lose against United the gap will be 13 points.
There will still be room for United to fight for the title. Anything is possible in football. With defeat against United and Champions League elimination, City will lose momentum. They will travel to Tottenham Hotspur in next match. If they lose three points there that gap will reduce to ten assuming United win against West Brom.
There is still plenty to fight for. We must not lose faith in the competitiveness of this great competition. Chelsea and Leicester had great seasons respectively in 2016/17 and 2015/16, but there were dramatic turnarounds in 2013/14 and 2011/12 season. Manchester City won the title on both occasions at last matchday. We hope Mourinho’s United play their best game against City and title celebration delays.
