Liverpool Vs Manchester City: The Big game awaits you this Sunday prime time
Premier League can’t serve you better than offering back to back fixtures which feature title challengers up against each other. Last week it was Chelsea Vs Liverpool. This week it’s Liverpool Vs Manchester City. The Big game awaits you this Sunday prime time.
A month ago, I wrote a blog that Premier League 2018/19 title is expected to be Liverpool Vs Manchester City. And here we are, both sides sitting at the top with only goal difference differentiating them will go head-to-head on Sunday at 9:00pm IST (4:30pm CET).
This game has everything to go for football fans around the world. World’s top two coaches are up against each other, best individual players are up against each other, and most importantly two of the title contenders are up against each other.
We all know about the rivalry between Jurgen Klopp and Pep Gaurdiola. These two top dogs have earned the most respect at managerial level in recent years. Their football philosophies have outpaced last decade most reliable boss Jose Mourinho. Mourinho is currently managing Manchester United, the biggest club in England but his presence is sidelined by these two.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola regards highest respect universally, but his nemesis has always been Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp. Guardiola has lost 7 matches against Klopp: three during his reign at Bayern Munich against Borussia Dortmund and four against Liverpool at his current club Manchester City.
Mr. Perfectionist has tried everything against Klopp’s hard working side but it hasn’t lasted for full 90 minutes. Last season Manchester City lost three back to back games against Liverpool. In return-leg of UEFA Champions League quarter-final, Manchester City even look winning the battle in first-half but they didn’t manage the same intensity in second-half and lose the game.
He will definitely try something else this time to take revenge but Klopp side is more motivated this time because they feel they can win the league too. Points on the table don’t separate the both sides and it’s healthy sign for both the team. Winner of the match can take pride in sitting at the top of the Premier League’s helm and solidify their position with great motivation in their upcoming games.
They are undefeated in the league and a defeat on Sunday for any one of them will end their undefeated run. Both teams are definitely unbeaten but they have shown weaknesses in their team this season. They have offer some clues for others to exploit against them.
In their Champions League outing away from home in midweek, both sides were outplayed on certain occasions. Veteran Carlo Ancelotti’s Napoli side beats Liverpool 1-0 offering clue to Guardiola, how to play against Liverpool. He’ll definitely go through the video footage of Napoli Vs Liverpool game to prepare for the Sunday table topper clash.
On the other hand, Manchester City have also offered some clue in their breath-taking 1-2 victory against Hoffenheim. The 31-year-old Hoffenheim coach Julian Nagelsmann impressed with his tactics against Manchester Cit. He shown the world how close spaces at Manchester City’s back can be exploited with precision in passing and perfection in finishing. Hoffenheim striker Ishak Belfodil completely surprised Manchester City with an early goal in 44th second of the match thanks to Kerim Demirbay assist.
Both sides have offered clue for their respective opponents but they are best prepared to exploit those weaknesses against each other. Let’s see who turn out on the top of the league on Sunday.
Liverpool are expected to deploy their best playing XI with their last season midfield trio of Jordon Henderson, James Milner, and Gigi Wijnadum. Alisson Becker is irreplaceable as their shotstopper alongside the back four of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Virgil Van Dijk, and Andrew Robertson. They have got option upfront in Xherdan Shaqiri and Daniel Sturridge, but we hope they’ll continue with their regular MFS trio of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Mohamed Salah.
Naby Kieta is ruled out with his latest injury suffered against Napoli. Adam Lallana is still not match ready and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain & Rhian Brewster are long-term absentees.
Manchester City lineup is difficult to predict with Pep Guardiola’s flexibility thanks to brilliant players he has in his squad. But his injury worries will definitely cut short the job of predictors. Their last season best player Kevin de Bruyne is still out injured and Ilkay Gundogan is latest to join him on the sideline. Benjamin Mendy and Fabian Delph are also doubtful with their respective problems.
It left them with Ederson starting as their shot-stopper. Nicolas Otamendi, Aymeric Laporte, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Kylie Walker to start in back four lineup, alongside Fernandinho, David Silva, and Bernardo Silva in midfield. Rahim Sterling, Leroy Sane, and Sergio Aguero is undoubtedly their front three in the team.
It’s going to be a huge battle considering their teams. Alisson Becker and Ederson will fight for the no.1 position for Brazil as they compete against each other. Virgil Van Dijk is the most valuable centre-back in Premier League, he’ll have to prove that against the most mobile front three of Premier League.
Nicolas Otamendi and Aymeric Laporte will have an opportunity to block the moves of most fearful trio of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Mohamed Salah. Liverpool midfield certainly can’t compete against Manchester City’s quality but they have often come out with surprises with their hard work especially Milner.
I’m already goosebumps for this fixture. My Sunday prime time is definitely going to be spend on it. Where you want to spend your Sunday prime time. It’s definitely Liverpool Vs Manchester City. Get ready for high octane battle.
Liverpool to win 2-1
