The Anfield giant needed a great effort to overcome their third straight nimble performance against Chelsea at Anfield. Emre Can opened the scoring for visitors with his towering header. He finishes off Coutinho’s corner ball beating Mat Ryan to open the score and minutes later Firmino handed Liverpool 2-0 lead from Coutinho’s another assist.
Mohamed Salah didn’t find himself on the scoresheet on Saturday, but he was instrumental in Firmino’s both goal. First he came up with the assist for Coutinho and Brazilian served the plate for his compatriot Firmino.
Firmino was on the scoresheet again in second-half as Liverpool take the 3-0 lead at second-half. Murray scored the consolation goal for Brighton to make it 3-1, but Coutinho’s magic was still to go. The Brazilian playmaker scored a free-kick to make it 4-0, before he finally punishes Dunk to score an own goal to make it 5-1 for Liverpool.
The victory took Liverpool into top four on Premier League points table. Earlier today Chelsea registered a 3-1 victory over Newcastle United with the help of Eden Hazard’s double and Alvaro Morata’s 10th goal of the season. Tottenham Hotspur slipped further behind playing a 1-1 draw against Watford, whereas Manchester United take the lead over Chelsea with their 3-1 victory over Arsenal.
