PSG proved they’re too good for Ligue 1 as they break 82 year old record

No team has ever won their first eight Ligue 1 games since Lille in 1936, but Paris Saint-Germain break their 82 year old record to go in history book themselves. PSG registered a 3-0 victory over OGC Nice to achieve that feat. Neymar ended the game bloodied mouth but he must be happy with his two goals scored stretching both halves of the game.

They have got no comparison in the Ligue 1 can be also witnessed in their performances despite resting their key players for midweek UEFA Champions League game. Thomas Tuchel gave rest to Marco Verratti and Edinson Cavani considering their midweek game against Red Star Belgrade, but it doesn’t make any impact on their performances. They easily routed OGC Nice which boast of Mario Balotelli in their ranks.

Thomas Tuchel also experimented with a back three playing 3-4-2-1 formation. He opted for Presnel Kimpembe, Thiago Silva, and Thilo Kehrer as back three and deployed Marquinhos again in midfield alongside Adrien Rabiot, Christopher Nkunku, and Moussa Diaby. Neymar and Angel di Maria were playing behind Kylian Mbappe upfront.

German boss has the luxury to try any formation and be flexible with his plans in the league knowing they haven’t got much competition. You can’t expect PSG to be successful in any other setup with their experimentation but in Ligue 1 they can’t afford and it still win every game.

Two of the young guns in midfield – Christopher Nkunku and Moussa Diaby enjoyed their time out. Nkanku and Diaby, both were involved in Neymar’s first goal. Nkunku surged down the right and serves a ball for Mbappe who missed it only to be retrieved by Diaby. Then, Diaby rolled it for Neymar and Brazilian made a clinical finish from 22 yards out.

Neymar had another goal just before the end of the first-half but it was disallowed as he was caught marginally offside. Second-half wasn’t a different ball game. Di Maria launched Mbappe who did well to drag out a defender and goalkeeper but his strike struck another Nice defender and in rebound Nkunku made it 2-0.

Wylan Cyprien made life difficult for OGC Nice in the latter half of the game earning a red card. He whacked an elbow on Neymar leaving him bloodied mouth but Brazilian stayed on the pitch with cotton bandage and braced himself with another goal in injury time.

PSG are nine points clear on top after only eight rounds of games. This proves that PSG have got no competition in the Ligue 1, but they must improve themselves if they want to compete in Europe.
