Paris Saint-Germain finally put a stamp on Thomas Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel, Unai Emery, Paris Saint-Germain, PSG

Unai Emery knew that his days are limited in French capital after 2-5 aggregate defeat against Real Madrid in Uefa Champions League round of 16. It was the second year in a row that Paris Saint-Germain were eliminated at last 16 stage of the European competition. Emery was hired to bring European success to the club with his reputation of three consecutive Europa League successes with Sevilla. But Spaniard failed to emulate his European success at PSG and the unhappy Qatari owner chooses to replace him. Three or four big names were shortlisted for the job, but former Borussia Dortmund’s manager Thomas Tuchel name was finalized to put a stamp on.

Juventus’ Massimiliano Allegri, Chelsea’s Antonio Conte, and four-time Uefa Champions League winner veteran Carlo Ancelotti’s name was surfaced for the job, but PSG goes for a younger and attack-minded Thomas Tuchel.

ESPN reports as per their source, “Paris Saint-Germain’s owner Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has selected Thomas Tuchel as the man to replace current coach Unai Emery at the end of the season. The former Borussia Dortmund coach is expected to sign at least a two-year contract after agreeing terms, but nothing has been signed just yet. Once Tuchel has put pen to the paper the news might still only be announced at the end of the season to keep the squad motivated during the final days of Emery.”

The same report also highlights that Tuchel is Emir of Qatar, Al Thani’s choice. PSG chairman and CEO Naseer Al-Khelaifi’s favorites were Massimiliano Allegri and Mauricio Pochettino. Porto’s Sergio Conceicao and Andre Villas-Boas were Sporting Director Antero Henrique’s choice.

Emir was most impressed by Tuchel’s ability to speak French fluently and attacking vision for the team’s future style of play. Thomas Tuchel doesn’t have many trophies under his belt to boast himself but he is really good at getting maximum out of the players he will have at his disposal. He has learned that skill from his predecessor Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund.

Unai Emery will depart from PSG possibly winning seven trophies. He already has under his belt Coupe de France 2016/17, Coupe de la Ligue 2016/17 and 2017/18, Trophee des Champions 2016, 2017. Ligue 1 and Coupe de France of 2017/18 season is up for grab and Parisians are not far away from sealing them.
