If a team can win a treble every season they have a new manager-in-charge, they would have no complaint about making that change. Barcelona is living that reality with their debut managers’ treble-winning season. Pep Guardiola did it in 2008/09 season, Luis Enrique did it in 2014/15 season, and now Ernesto Valverde is on right track to win triple treble for the Blaugrana. The treble chase is on for him in his Barcelona debut season as well. Now the question is; will Barcelona be lucky to win the treble third time with a new manager.
The 2017/18 season is in its final stage. La Liga is only eight matchdays away, Copa del Rey final is around the corner, and Uefa Champions League road to Kiev is getting nearer. Barcelona is alive in all three competitions and favorite to emulate their treble-winning campaign for the third time.
Copa del Rey final on April 22 will define their path. It will be the first trophy to grab for them. Sevilla, their final opponent has already shown what damage they can do to them in their league fixture on Sunday. Andalusians dominated the game with a 2-0 advantage for 86 minutes before Suarez and Messi duo snatched a point from them in dying minutes. They could expect the same Sevilla challenge on April 22. They’ll really need a little bit of luck to get passed them.
Catalan giants are La Liga leaders with their 76 points after 30 matchdays. Their nearest competitor Atletico Madrid sits at second with 64 points from 29 matches. They have a cushion of 12 points in Primera division with only eight games to play. They only need 15 more points to win their 25th La Liga title. And in order to achieve that they will be facing Leganes, Valencia, Real Madrid, Villarreal, and Real Sociedad at home, whereas Celta Vigo, Deportivo, and Levante away.
These are not easy fixtures. Valencia, Real Madrid, Villarreal, Real Sociedad, and Celta Vigo, all are capable of hurting Barca and they have hurt them in the past. They will really need a little bit of luck to overcome these challenges.
In Uefa Champions League, they are the clear favorite to book a place in the semifinal. Their quarter-final opponent AS Roma hasn’t been given much weightage against them. They must have already started thinking about semifinal and finals. Barcelona is not used to suffer defeat at semifinal and final stage. It makes pretty sure that they’ll win Uefa Champions League. However, they’ll need the luck to win their sixth European trophy in Kiev.
Ernesto Valverde needs the luck to have a fit squad at his disposal. As the season goes nearer to end, the demand from the squad to perform increases. Barcelona will play seven games alone in April. It will include four La Liga games, Uefa Champions League quarterfinals tie both legs against AS Roma and Copa del Rey final against Sevilla. Barcelona really need the luck to deal with these tricky situations. Your opponent may take advantage of your tiredness in those closing minutes when you’ll be out of shape on the pitch.
It is necessary that Barcelona have a fit first playing XI. They couldn’t afford to lose Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic, Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti, Jordi Alba, and Marc Ter-Stegen in the final third of the season. If they keep themselves fit, Barcelona will rarely need the luck to win the treble. And, Barcelona will be third time lucky with a new manager to win a treble.
