Where will Antoine Griezmann land up this summer?

Antoine Griezmann summer transfer, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City

Barcelona contract almost done, Manchester United’s prime target and Real Madrid switch is a possibility and then Manchester City came into the fray

Antoine Griezmann is one of Europe’s hot property. Atletico Madrid star currently belongs to the category of world’s top five players. He is a prime target of Europe’s top five clubs whether it’s Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City or PSG. The ultimate question comes to mind, where will he land up this summer?

The player himself has made clear that he will decide his future before the showpiece in Russia. He told L’Equipe, “It’s not about knowing where I will play, but about having the peace of mind if I’m still in one place or another. It may be boring but I have told my sister that, whether I stay or not, this will have to be resolved beforehand [prior to the World Cup starting]. What bothers me the most is that everyone asks me about this issue.”

Griezmann is 27 and he has ambitions in his life. He wants to win Champions League, individuals awards out there in Ballon d’Or and European Golden Boot. The Frenchman finds it difficult to fulfill his dreams at Atletico Madrid. He gave his four seasons to Rojiblancos but the only trophy which the club won was Supercopa de Espana in 2014.

He has earned the individual accolades but he never reaches the summit. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have always made him feel inferior to them occupying the top two spot. He was third on the podium of Ballon d’Or 2016 and The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2016. He won La Liga Best Player Award in 2016 alongside becoming UEFA European Championship Golden Boot winner.

Barcelona is inching closer to shine Griezmann next season

Now, after staying for the four seasons with Atletico Madrid, Griezmann is looking to achieve something bigger in his life. He says, “When I’m happy, everything’s fine. I want to win a World Cup or the Champions League, then the Ballon d’Or will come if it has to come. I am a part of a group and I prefer to win a collective title than an individual one. For example the trophy to the best scorer of the European championship – I would have preferred to win the competition.”

There is no lack of options for Griezmann. Barcelona is chasing him from last season. Real Madrid is considering him as an option if they fail to bring Neymar this season in Madrid. Manchester deal was almost done last summer, but due to transfer ban on Atletico, Griezmann chooses to stay and signed a new deal.

Things have changed this season. Griezmann is not enjoying a great deal at Wanda Metropolitano, which he enjoyed at Vicente Calderon (Atletico Madrid previous home ground). His contract buyout clause will also reduce to €100 million this season. It will allow teams to give him a better deal with a lesser payout to Atletico. Now, it’s time for Griezmann to carefully choose his next club where he sees fulfilling his dream.

Barcelona has dropped out of the race with their acquisition of Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho. Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi presence won’t help him in achieving his individual dream of winning Ballon d’Or there for next two or three years, but yes winning Champions League can be a done deal. It’s highly unlikely that he will move to Barcelona for the sake of being a member of winning squad.

Real Madrid is secretly planning to bring Griezmann to Santiago Bernabeu

Manchester United doesn’t layout a better prospect in near future. They are not going to win this season anything. It’s difficult to imagine a life in such a chaotic situation at Old Trafford. United’s boss Jose Mourinho is not enjoying a very good relationship with his existing players and who knows he will be in great terms with Griezmann. It will be a no-no.

PSG will give him a chance to be at home. But Neymar departure will take the limelight away from the club. They haven’t enjoyed a great deal in Europe despite boosting their squad every season. It will be a great prospect for him, but he may be forgotten as well playing in Europe’s fifth-ranked association.

Real Madrid will be a great prospect for him if Gareth Bale leaves the club in summer. However, he is considered as an option if Neymar deal didn’t work out for Los Blancos. Ronaldo will present a challenge for him to win the individual awards but aging Portuguese will leave him plenty of room to shine. The only problem is Atletico fans won’t like it. They have shown a great respect for him in the last four seasons.

The best option for him will be a move to Manchester City. Diario Gol reports that Pep Guardiola wants him as a replacement for Sergio Aguero. Guardiola sees Aguero days are numbered at Etihad despite being City’s leading scorer of the season. He doesn’t match Guardiola’s expectation and Griezmann can fill in his void. City also presents a good prospect in terms of winning individual awards. They will be Premier League defending champion, they are regular in Europe and one or two years away from winning Champions League.

Staying at Atletico, no longer make sense for Antoine Griezmann. Rojibalncos failed to make to the knockout stages of Uefa Champions League. La Liga looks like a distant dream and it doesn’t seem Atletico’s boss Diego Simeone has enough fight left in him to convince him to stay. He is ready to say goodbye to him…
