Santiago Solari comes under immediate scrutiny against Eibar after handed permanent job
Real Madrid’s renaissance under Santiago Solari witnessed immediate scrutiny against Eibar as he managed his first game as a permanent manager. After Julen Lopetegui’s sacking, Santiago Solari seems to be doing a great job as he earned four back-to-back victories for Los blancos. It helped him to earn a permanent job as he signed a new deal until 2021, but he came under immediate scrutiny with a 3-0 loss against Eibar.
Real Madrid travelled to Muncipal de Irupa in Eibar to face the lowly side, where only 7,000 fans were in stand. We don’t know that international break took a toll on Los blanocs or not, but we witness in Eibar is a complete shock.
Los Merengues lose 3-0. It’s first time Real Madrid have lost against Eibar in La Liga. It’s a shocking defeat knowing lowly hosts scored three goals and Real Madrid didn’t even get a consolation. If you consider the difference between both teams financially, and what they achieved in terms of defeating Real Madrid is huge.
Eibar were 15th on table before the match started, but they end up at 7th place after the match. Now, they are just behind Real Madrid after registering their first victory over their much superior rival.
Basque hosts completely dominated them led by Barcelona loanee Marc Cucurella. It seems like a season dedicated to Barcelona loaned player. Yesterday, we got the news that Paco Alcacer has earned a permanent move to Borussia Dortmund after his good run as a loanee. And now, Cucurella shined for Eibar expecting to make a big leap forward in his career.
Marc Cucurella was instrumental in every goal scored by Eibar. However, it was Gonzalo Escalante, Sergi Enrich and Kike Garcia who found their name on the scoresheet.
For Real Madrid, it was a poor display. They were lacking the coordination and Isco was once again seems to be ignored by Santiago Solari sitting on the substitution bench. The new signing Adrian Odriozola was poor defensively which cost Real Madrid second goal and soon an injury led him to be substituted as well.
Gareth Bale, Marco Asensio, and Karim Benzema were equally disjointed in attack. It seems midfield is going to continue to bother Real Madrid as long as they don’t have best substitute for their midfield trio. Casemiro was rested, and Dani Ceballos was employed alongside Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. They were not good together as it got witnessed in a misplaced pass by Kroos in his own half.
He tried to play the ball to Odriozola from left to right, and Spaniard failed to control the ball and get dispossessed by Cucurella. It earned Eibar their second of the day and Real Madrid failed to make a comeback.
There can be enough excuses and you can’t ignore that, but it’s Solari who will be under scrutiny. We can point out that Marcelo came after injury, Odriozola and Kroos had a bad day, Modric didn’t show up, but ultimately it’s manager who is going to be responsible for all that.
