Real Madrid in euphoria losing grip over La Liga battle

Real Madrid, La Liga, Barcelona

Real Madrid lost against Girona, whereas Barcelona registered 2-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao

It always brings a Euphoria moment in Real Madrid side when they finish a season with double. Last season was a season of euphoric moment as they grabbed La Liga as well as Uefa Champions League trophy.

It’s always difficult to compete for each and every thing, when you have such an intense rival like Barcelona competing for the same no. of trophies. In this new La Liga season 2017/18, Barcelona is enjoying its pole position at top with 28 points from 10 matches. The Blaugranas have registered nine victories and a draw to consolidate their position at top, whereas Los Blancos have considerably left behind accumulating only 20 points from the same round of games.

Their latest 2-1 lost against newly promoted Girona side has only added to their pain as Valencia managed to keep themselves ahead of European champions in La Liga race. The Merengues lost 1-0 to Real Betis on match day 5, and Girona managing a surprise victory forced them to suffer their second defeat of the season.

However, Coach Zinedine Zidane is not losing his patience as he knows the season is long enough to curtail the gap of eight points. Marca reports as Zidane comments, “Real can come back, we’ll have better days and our rivals will drop points. I don’t think we played badly, no. We didn’t lack intensity, we tried hard, but that’s why the defeat bothers me. It’s more to do with lack of concentration.”

He also doesn’t see it as a difference in attitude when it comes to European games or domestic games. He adds, “I don’t see it differently. We are not lazy in the league; on the contrary, it’s our day to day job. It’s true that we lost points again, but the desire that the team has remained intact.”

Well, it’s Zidane responsibility to keep the team intact but it seems last season success has allowed Real Madrid to be little carried away. They still haven’t come out of their euphoric phase and it will take them sometime to understand that the new season is under way.

They are now completely dependent on their rivals to drop points if they’ll have any chance to defend their title. Although, Lionel Messi inspired Barcelona is in no mood drop points early in the season to allow their rival to bounce back. Barcelona had two difficult back to back away trips against Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao, but Blaugranas managed to grab four points out of possible six.

Catalan giants still need to work in some departments, but Messi heroics continues to salvage points for them. Sergio Busquets, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Andres Iniesta, and Paulinho continues to shine in this new season and if other members of the squad pick up their game, Real Madrid will certainly lose their grip over La Liga battle.
