“Pele – the legend” made a fool of himself claiming Messi has only one skill
“Pele”, the name seems pretty ordinary but he’s a legend in world football. He is widely regarded as greatest footballer of all time, but he still feels insecure when some other names got compared to him. “Pele– the legend” made fool of himself claiming Messi has only one skill, when Barcelona talisman reminds him he has much to offer with his two sublime free-kicks effort in 0-4 win over RCD Espanyol.
Messi, the introverted character never speaks much about the criticism he faces but he always gives a perfect reply with his display on the pitch. He is 31, but he continues to amaze the world with his skills.
Barcelona no.10 was aiming to give a perfect reply to Mr. All Time Great after suffering a heavy criticism from him in midweek, but Espanyol become his latest victim. The no.10 was on full display and his intent was pretty clear to show Pele that he has only one skill, but it’s more than enough to entertain the world and to be called “GOAT”after him.
Pele gave an interview to Folha de S.Paulo, in which he was furious on comparison with Lionel Messi. He said as SoccerLaduma reports, “How can you make a comparison between a guy who heads the ball well, shoots with the left, shoots with the right… and another who only shoots with one leg, only has one skill, doesn’t head the ball well?”
The legend added, “How can you compare? To compare with Pele, it has to be someone who shoots with the left, shoots well with the right, and scores headers.”
However Pele himself wasn’t in synced with his own claim, when he said that, “Maradona was better than Messi. Yes, by a lot. Much better.”
Brazilian legend forgot that Maradona also has only one skill. He has the god’s left foot just like Messi, not god’s hand. He scored the winner against England in 1986. Yes, it was given as a header goal, but Maradona himself claimed that it was his hand.
Anyway, I don’t want to drag Maradona into it. I just want to say that “Pele – the legend” made a fool of himself claiming Messi has only one skill. Messi made sure that he come up with an answer as quickly as possible. He was unplayable against Espanyol and only the team who become his victim can tell how good Messi is.
Messi scored two stunning free-kicks, assisted Ousmane Dembele with a perfect eye for goal, and was central in Luis Suarez’s strike. We can safely say that he was involved in all four of Barcelona goals against Espanyol. It wasn’t enough, he made a great recovery after losing the possession to grab the ball back and he nearly missed his hat-trick when his header goes wide.
He might have only one skill and only one foot, but he seems to be arrived from a different planet. Whenever he play, week-in, week out, he gives a different kind of entertainment to the world. He amazes the world every week with his skills and you must not be surprised if he pulls something extraordinary in a moment.
His one left foot, which seems to be god’s foot has already earned him a demigod status in Barcelona. He is the real “GOAT” for million fans around the world who has the privilege to watch Messi.
Pele made a fool of himself when other legends started tweeting on his harsh comment. Gary Linekar tweeted,“2 sensational free kicks from Messi again tonight. 10 in all in 2018, ludicrously good. Anyone who watches a lot of football and has any understanding of the game knows he’s on a different planet to everyone else.”
Lionel Messi’s Barcelona teammate Jordi Alba said as Sport reported, “Pele must not able to see very well if he says what he says about Leo. It seems like a lie that someone in the world of football could speak like that.”
He even goes to troll France Football Ballon d’Or award. He adds, “Leo’s the best in the world by some distance. We all know there are campaigns from clubs and press, but Messi’s the best by a difference.”
Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde has all praise for his captain. He said, “Messi is just extraordinary. The two goals, the chances created and what he gives us, he is extraordinary.”
His teammate Sergio Busquets said, “We already know what Leo is capable of. In practice there is no barrier with players, but he has a tremendous level of effectiveness. For us Leo is fundamental, either with free-kicks on in play, which is why he is the best player in the world.”
I have all respect for Pele what he has achieved in his life. He has been voted World Player of the Century in 1999 by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS), and was joint winner with Diego Maradona as FIFA Player of the Century, but he must respect the new kid who is at least capable of drawing comparison with him.
Messi has never said anything wrong about anyone. He never criticized anyone and he’s still humble enough to put his skills as pure luck. Talking to Marca after putting a brace of free-kick into the net, he said, “Well, I try to follow a [free kick] ritual a bit, trying to do things the same way as so that it goes well again. But sometimes I get a lot of free kicks and I don’t put them in. I was lucky enough to get two in a row.”
