Barcelona faced a tricky game at Camp Nou against Sevilla. At such a crucial juncture in the league, Barcelona should have avoided the top of the table clash, but Lionel Messi made it look easy. Argentine talisman returning from suspension took the guard to take Blaugranas on top of the table, although it lasted only hours with Real Madrid 4-2 victory over Leganes. Messi gave a slap on his critics face with a brace against Sevilla, which helped Barcelona to register a routine 3-0 victory.

Real Madrid grabbed their top spot back with a victory over Leganes later tonight, with goals from Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez. But, it was a day belonged to Messi. Barcelona no.10 suffering from criticism lately kept his silence off the field, but came into the game something to prove. It was Barcelona’s forward trio eight minutes of magic in the middle of first half, which took the game away from Sevilla.

Luis Suarez opened the scoring with over the head volley from Messi’s assist in 23rd minute to grab his 24th goal of the season. In response to his Uruguayan teammate closing in for Pichachi Award race, which Messi himself lead by 25 goals, increased his gap at top to three goals by grabbing a brace within five minutes. Suarez & Neymar each assisted a goal in Messi’s insurgence at top of Pichachi Award race with 27 goals. Messi also leads the goal scoring chart in all competition with 43 goals to his name from 41 appearances.

Talking to BeIN Sport, Barcelona club captain Andres Iniesta said, “Messi is a unique player. There isn’t and there will never be another like him. The most spectacular thing is that the years pass and he never stop surprising. The club are lucky he can be here.”

It wasn’t only goals, Messi dribbles and passing were also brilliant on the night. He passed a perfect ball to Iniesta in the box, which he failed to control when everyone at the Camp Nou thought Messi will go for the goal.

Sevilla didn’t look anywhere in the first half, but their urgency grew in second half. Barcelona felt more relax in second half due to their 3-0 lead, but Andalusians tried to took their chances to get back into the game. Some solid defending and Marc-Andre ter Stegen brilliant goalkeeping kept another clean shit for Barcelona.

Andalusians enjoyed the third spot for a prolonged period in the league, but Atletico has overtaken them with their 1-0 lead against Real Sociedad last night. They could only brought themselves back in top three, if Atletico loses Madrid derby against Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday.

Barcelona victory over Sevilla came at the right time, but it didn’t impact Real Madrid results. Los blancos goes back on top of Laliga with 4-2 victory. Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez kept their balance right in absence of key players in Cristiano Ronaldo, Toni Kroos and Gareth Bale.

But, good thing for Barcelona is vintage Messi is back in the game. He is going out there something to prove. He is like on war, keeping his silence off the pitch to produce magic on the pitch. His gesture after scoring the first goal belonged to the children of the cancer foundation which he built at Barcelona.
