Jorge Alberto Francisco Valdano Castellanos had big remarks to make after Madrid derby. He made contrasting remarks on Antoine Griezmann and Gareth Bale. Former Real Madrid forward wasn’t happy about Gareth Bale display particularly despite Welshman effort to earn goal for Real Madrid. However, he looked pretty content with Antoine Griezmann effort for Atletico Madrid.
Nothing that Bale does is worth 100 million
Jorge Valdano told El Transistor, “Nothing that Bale does is worth 100 million euros and he has only the number he wears on his shirt”, as Marca reports.
It ’s pretty harsh remark for Gareth Bale. The Welshman wasn’t playing his natural role as he played on left-wing, in spite that he provided the cross to assist Cristiano Ronaldo. He hadn’t had a great match because he is not happy mentally. He was on the bench against Juventus in Champions League quarterfinal first-leg game in Turin despite having a good game against Las Palmas last week.
Valdano was also asked about Atletico Madrid’s star player Antoine Griezmann. He goes gaga over Frenchman praise. He said, “Griezmann is the best striker, a good midfielder and also contributes a lot defensively. Judging by the market, he is a cheap player.”
There are speculations that Griezmann will leave the club at the end of this season. And, both Spanish giants (Barcelona and Real Madrid) wants to sign him. Griezmann’s buyout clause is only 100 million euros and keeping in mind this hyped transfer market, he’ll definitely come cheap.
El Transistor also catches Valdano on Messi-Ronaldo rivalry. He added, “Ronaldo looked great physically though and was playing for the whole attack, he is clearly in a moment of great confidence. His duel with [Lionel] Messi isn’t lacking anything. It is Madrid vs Barcelona, Europe vs America, a battle between geniuses.”
