Barcelona signed Uruguayan youngster Ronald Araujo
FC Barcelona were slipping behind in race to sign youngsters when Real Madrid were flourishing with the signings of Brazilian youngsters Vincius Junior and Rodrygo. In Real Madrid reply, Barcelona signed Uruguay’s U-20 captain Ronald Araujo. The 19-year-old is expected to spend his first year at the club with Barca B team.
Sport reports, “Araujo arrives from Boston River (Montevideo) in a deal worth €1.7 million plus variables as per Barcelona official announcement. However, sources in Uruguay claim that the total cost of the transfer is closer to €5 million.
Ronaldo Araujo stands tall with 188 cm. The young central-defender is going to earn his name in Europe in the same way as Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez. He has got leadership abilities and he posses the same aerial threat as Atletico Madrid’s centre-back pairing offers.
Barcelona releases Yerry Mina this summer, although Colombian enjoyed a very good World Cup. He was simply not fitting into Barcelona plans. Now, we have to see how good Ronald Araujo fits in their plans knowing he’ll get a chance to develop himself playing with Barcelona B team.
