NEUFC snatched last gasp equaliser against Chennaiyin in a thrilling 3-3 encounter
We don’t know NEUFC will qualify for the play-off or not, but this encounter set the tone for Hero Indian Super League later third edition later event. A last gasp equaliser from Shouvik Ghosh ends Chennaiyin dream of joining the other play-off qualifying team, and despite Dudu Omagbemi hat-trick effort Machans failed to collect all three points. Chennai now have only 15 points from 13 round of matches, and their road to play-off has end. A spirit pact Jawahar Lal Nehru crowd were screaming for their home team, as their main man Dudu delivered them a beauty with his hat-trick, but Ghosh spoiled their winning moment snatching a point for the visitors.
In the end Dudu hat-trick didn’t prove enough, there was two individuals’ performance which kept the game alive for full ninety minutes. Dudu delivered for Machans, then Nicolas Velez delivered for Highlanders scoring a brace and setting up Ghosh for the final goal of the match.
Dudu opened the scoring in the 34th minute before Argentine Nicolas Velez equalised four minutes later. But, Nigerian made it 2-1 at the break only for Velez to level within six minutes of restart at second-half again . Dudu completed his hat-trick nine minutes from full-time but Shouvik Ghosh headed a late goal in injury-time to share the spoils.
The first goal came for the Chennaiyin in 34th minute, when Mehrajuddin Wadoo got beyond Shouvik Ghosh on the right, and provided the cross to Dudu who scored a glancing header, after getting ahead of Zokora, and the ball flew into the far corner. But, the lead didn’t last long because Nicolas Velez did something magical four minutes later. He collected the ball outside the opposition D-box, and get past defenders going to his right and finishes with a stunner.
But, first-half didn’t finish there, Dudu find the first-half stoppage time finish with a loose ball which didn’t get the clearance. Mulder played a ball for Jerry who centered the ball into the box. Although Zokora made his way ahead of Dudu, the Ivorian missed the clearance altogether leaving the Nigerian striker to apply the finishing touch and restore the home team’s advantage.
Marco Materazzi men happily goes into tunnel with 2-1 lead, but there was more to come from the visitors as well. Velez night wasn’t finished, only six minutes into the second-half and Velez equalized again. The move started when Romaric won the ball off Zakeer Mundampara and Salam Ranjan Singh’s cross found Eli Sabia whose clearance came only as far as Velez, and Argentine got his brace with Karanjit error at touchline.
It was an entertaining game, and entertainment didn’t lasted there. Dudu once again fired for the hosts and he thought he got the winner with his hat-trick, Shouvik Ghosh whose error led to Chennaiyin first goal, head home from a corner to earn a point for the North East United Football Club.
