Delhi Dynamos put a stunning show to beat Chennaiyin FC 3-1
Defending champions Chennaiyin FC played a 2-2 draw in their opening fixture of ISL 3 against Atletico de Kolkata, must have been thought when they will be back to their home ground, they will get their first victory. But, they never thought visitors Delhi Dynamos will completely outplay them, making their presence felt in their opening fixture playing away in Chennai at Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium.
Dynamos Milan Das was fouled in the box by goalkeeper Duwayne Kerr, and it gave Delhi 1-0 lead in the 26th minute of the game, as Marcelo Pereira took the penalty to smash the ball into the right corner of the net, as Kerr goes down on left.
John Stiven Mendoza was desperately missed in Chennaiyin line-up for his prolific display of actions, but his replacement Dudu Omagbemi didn’t disappoint Materazzi with his selection, as he got on the scoresheet. Jeje slipped in a ball towards the Nigerian and the striker fires his shot right away in the 32nd minute of the game, the keeper gets a hand but cannot keep it out.
Chennaiyin’s got the equalizer, but they didn’t expect a storm was coming to their way, as Marcelo scored another one to serve himself a brace. Marcelo gave Delhi lead back within two minutes of Chennaiyin goal, and Chennaiyin’s poor defending came to the fore once again when Richard Gadze dropped back taking John Arne Riise with him and making space for Marcelo to exploit. Gadze made a brilliant run cutting through the two centre backs leaving Marcelo clear to score his second of the night.
Marcelo got to score his hat-trick chance as well, at the stroke of half-time when he cut in from the right past local-boy Mohanraj, who had a nightmare of a match, with just the keeper to beat. But Kerr made a save for Chennaiyin, to allow no further damage.
In second-half as well, Chennaiyin’s looked nowhere in attack, and scrappy in defence. Dynamos made sure they go on scoresheet once again as well, as substitute Badara Badji got a header from a Kean Lewis cross to make it 3-1 for Delhi Dynamos.
Delhi marquee player, Florent Malaouda come on the pitch in the 81st minute of the game, as it felt, his services have no requirement, Delhi were already 3-1 up. Dynamos kept the possession for the most of the match and pressed hard when the possession was lost, forcing Chennaiyin FC to make mistakes which they did and in plenty.
Chennaiyin needed a morale booster match before facing last year’s finalist FC Goa who will be looking for their revenge for the loss of final loss, but instead champions got humiliated on their home ground.
