The Lions made a late comeback to snatch a 3-3 draw against Mumbai
Hero Indian Super League 3 witnessed the first scintillating encounter of the season when two heavyweights metro city teams goes into a battle at Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium in Delhi. Delhi Dynamos made a dramatic comeback in last quarter of the match to prove their mettle against Mumbai City FC who were in comfortable position from Krisztián Vadócz two goals in the first-half. Gadze put one back for Delhi, but Norde made it 3-1 for Mumbai City FC. It was Badji and Marcelinho who put Delhi Dynamos on level terms to keep them undefeated at home, and secure a point as well.
The hosts started well on their attack but failed to capitalise. Delhi’s marquee player Florent Malouda made a convincing run in 3rd minute of the game, but Richard Gadze failed to make a connection. Then, David Addy tries his luck but goes straight into goalkeeper gloves. Moluda and Addy were again into action as Addy provided a cross in the box, but once again it didn’t prove fruitful. First, 25 minutes belonged to Delhi but they were not clinical to finish things off.
After 25 minutes Mumbai were winning the battle in the middle, getting free-kicks one after another. In 28th minute, Mumbai goes close to open scoring with Anwar’s header which goes over the bar. In 33rd minute Mumbai got the lead with Costa’s cross which Vadocz put into the net brilliantly. It was Mumbai again with free-kick in 37th minute, when Norde took the free-kick but it hit the woodwork and Vadocz got the chance to capitalize once again with rebound. Mumbai 2-0, and home side Dynamos could only blame themselves for their missed chances. Delhi tries to comeback in late minutes of first-half without proper execution and ended trailing 2-0 at the end of second-half.
In second-half Lions looked more comfortable with Marcelinho and Gadze combining together. In 51st minute, Marcelinho put the cross into the box and Gadze guided it into goal post to lower Mumbai FC lead. But, it was only for 18 minutes, Mumbai come back strong with Norde’s goal in 69th minute. Delhi goes trailing by two goals once again.
It really brings the turn of the event, home side got charged up once again. Badara Badji scored one back in 76th minute for home fans to brings smile back on home fans face. Now, it was only one goal lead once again and Delhi needed to find the equaliser in last 10 minutes of the game. It was the worst moment for Mumbai to concede a penalty in 82nd minute, and Dynamos could only be thankful to god to get on level terms. Marcelo Leite Pereira made no mistake from the spot, and Delhi Dynamos got back into the game with 8 minutes remaining. Now the game was even, and both side didn’t take much risk of losing and goes for draw.
Mumbai had the chance in 85th minute but it hit the bar, and Marcelinho came close in added time for Delhi which also perished. The Lions kept their unbeaten run and Mumbai who were looking strong to win only managed to snatch point from 3-3 thrilling draw. It was an intense night in Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium, in the Indian capital, and Capital city team Delhi Dynamos maintained their reputation escaping a defeat and turning it into a dramatic draw.
