FC Goa finally tasted their first victory of HISL against Mumbai
FC Goa finally tasted victory over Mumbai City FC 1-0 to register their first win of Hero Indian Super League 2016 at the Mumbai Football Arena on Friday evening. Richarlyson Felisbino scored the only goal of the match in 41st minute which helped Gaurs register their first victory to get back into the competition after three defeats of the season.
It wasn’t a match which got many shots on target. Trindade Goncalves of FC Goa tried his luck from distance at 27th minute but shot goes wide of target. Despite Diego Forlan presence, it was Sony Norde who trouble Goa most in first-half for Mumbai City FC.
Gaurs hadn’t enjoyed much luck in the previous matches, finally break the deadlock four minutes before half-time with their first shot on target. Julio Cesar finds Richarlyson from his free-kick, who had made a surging run into box. The Brazilian midfielder finished brilliantly on the half-volley to give Zico’s Goa a 1-0 lead, and a shy of relief.
Diego Forlan took a shot from distance in the 43rdminute for Mumbai to bring some spark for the hosts but failed to test Subhasish Roy Chowdhury in Goa’s goal. It seems like 37-year-old star is not up to his mark, coming after injury, and has lost his touch.
Second-half started brilliantly for both sides. Goa had the chance to double their lead within a minute of the restart after Cesar headed a brilliant diagonal ball by Richarlyson straight to Robin Singh on the edge of Mumbai’s six-yard box, but he perished the chance playing straight into goalkeeper hands. Forlan went close to scoring for Mumbai a minute later after shooting narrowly wide of Goa’s goal in the 47th minute. Another dangerous free-kick by Cesar two minutes later went inches wide of goal with none of attackers managing to get a head on it.
Matias Defederico this season star man of Mumbai’s attack teared apart Goa’s defence before sending a left-footed effort wide in the 53rd minute, but he couldn’t continue due to an injury to trouble FC Goa anymore. Substitute Jackichand Singh had the chance to make an impact by testing Chowdhury with a shot on goal after cutting in from the left flank in the 63rd minute. Norde made life tough for Goa in 80th minute when he dribbled past Goa’s defence and unleashed a powerful and low shot at goal, but couldn’t beat Rafael who blocked the shot.
Forlan burst another free-kick over the bar in the 86th minute to end any hope of hosts recovery. It was Cesar who came close to scoring for Goa, after he ran at the hosts’ defence before taking a cheeky shot on goal, which Mumbai’s goalkeeper Roberto Volpato saved to keep his side in the game. Alexandre Guimaraes’ team Mumbai City FC suffered their second defeat of the season in six matches, after making a impressive start of the season.
