Mohan Bagan gave a double to East Bengal in Kolkata derby. They won the Kolkata derby 2-1, and it also helps them to eclipse East Bengal on points table. Bagan reached on second within a point range of leader Aizwal FC creating a two-point difference to their bitter rival East Bengal. The Mariners has also played a game lesser than the both nearest rivals and can go all the way to win title with only four game left to play in the I-league.

Last time, both sides met they played a dull 0-0 draw, but it was a great performance from the both sides this time. Although, Bagan dominated the match, but East Bengal also earned themselves a consolation in injury time at Kanchanjangha Stadium. Sony Norde and Azharuddin Mallick has already assured the Mariners victory in first half itself, but The Red & Gold Brigade were ready to fight back in second half. They failed although, and Rowllin Borges only able to find the consolation goal for his team.

The Red & Gold brigade could have gone on the score sheet with Borges header in 51st minute, but Indian international failed to convert it into goal. Bagan were not pushing for more goals and they were looking to control the game, whereas East Bengal has the emergency to go for the goal. But, Willis Plaza red card in the 66th minute ruins the visitors chance to comeback.

Bengal needed two goals to play at least a draw with only 24 minutes left in the game to stay above Bagan on points table. But, down to ten men, it was a difficult task to even stop Bagan scoring more, leave Bengal comeback aside. They do find the goal in 92nd minute of the game, but it was too late to consider a comeback.

Mohun Bagan gives joy to their home fans giving a double blow to East Bengal. Three points took them above Bengal on points table as well as nearer to their second title in three years. Last two season I-league winners Bengaluru FC meanwhile suffered another defeat of the season against the hands of leader Aizwal FC.
