The East is not ready to give up their title chances this time, a revolution can be noticed since AIFF decision to continue with I-league as top-flight football in India. Some clubs may have walked out unnecessarily, but decision really helped India’s oldest and most followed clubs like Mohun Bagan & East Bengal. Both of the team from Kolkata City is flourishing this season, and especially, East Bengal is not ready to compromise with their top spot.
We saw Aizwal earlier taking the lead at top with their 2-0 victory over Mumbai City FC, but East Bengal dominated Shillong Lazong to retain their top spot in I-league. The Red & Yellow assured they grab all three points at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shillong, to cement their position at top.

Chris Payne, the Australian forward scored both goals for East Bengal in early half to earn his team victory. Asier Pierrick Dipanda Picka pulled one back for Lazong, but in the end it wasn’t enough to give the hosts victory.
The Red & Gold Brigade takes the lead in 9th minute from Chris Payne effort from centre of the box, when Lazong defenders made a fool out of themselves not clearing a loose ball. It really allowed Payne to dominate the terms in opponents half, and Australian doesn’t take much time to double the lead. He scored again in 33rd minute, after controlling brilliantly a long-ball, and volleying it into the net.
Dicka pulled one back for Lazong in 64th minute, but they rarely find time to level the score. There were chances, but Shillong failed to capitalize on them, and East Bengal marched ahead on points table skipping past second placed Aizwal FC.
