Zinedine Zidane goodbye to Real Madrid came as surprise

Zinedine Zidane said goodbye to Real Madrid on Thursday afternoon press conference. It came as a surprise. It’s hardly a week as he led Real Madrid to win their 13th UEFA Champions League title and his third in a row and he announced that he is leaving. It’s difficult to digest because we still haven’t recovered from their celebration and the man at the top said goodbye.

Zidane simply resigned saying that Real Madrid need a different voice in the dressing room after his two and half year of stewardship.

Marca reports as Zizou told, “After three years it’s difficult to continue coaching, even more so after winning three Champions League. I just didn’t see clearly that we would win it again. It’s a difficult moment as I’m saying I’m leaving. However, it’s not a sad day for me, it’s a case of I’ll see you soon. I’ll always be close to this club, I know many people here and that relationship won’t change.”

Frenchman reminisced that winning the La Liga title last season was his best memory as the Real Madrid’s coach. It’s very unorthodox choice for a man who has won three back to back Champions League title.

He also adds that dealing with star players ego didn’t force him to make the decision. He said, “No, not at all, that has nothing to do with it. I have the respect of all the players, which has been fundamentals in achieving such success. These players have nothing to do with my decision, it’s simply something I’ve chosen to do.”

Zidane decision also surprises club president Florentino Perez. He said, “I wasn’t prepared for this news. I want to thank Zizou for his dedication to the job, his passion, and his affection. He is an example for everyone, I hope that this is not a farewell, I want him to return someday.”

It left him with an impeccable job to find someone at the Real Madrid’s helm. All of the big dogs are already occupied and some of them have already arrived at their new club. It’s difficult to find a replacement at this point.
