Unai Emery was bold in his first interview as Arsenal boss

Unai Emery has managed big clubs like Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain in past, but he knows Arsenal present a different challenge. Gunners have more fan base than his previous clubs and the man (Arsene Wenger) he has replaced has left a legacy for him to follow. The Spaniard was bold in his first interview as Arsenal boss as he challenged Manchester City for the Premier League title next season.

Emery told, “We want to work on this club together. I know my ambition and my passion and to know how I want to grow up with Arsenal. All the conversations I have had with the club show we share the same vision for the club.”

“I believe we can grow with the players we have. The objective is to work hard together and with these talented players. It’s very important for the club, after two years outside the Champions League, to work to be the best team in the Premier League and also in the world.”

He adds as Daily Mail reports, “That is our objective (to catch Manchester City), Arsenal is a club with fantastic personality and identity and I believe and the club has shown me that they believe. It is about showing that personality and showing the stature of this football club. What we want to do is not fear any team neither here in the Premier League or in Europe and our objective is to be among the best and to beat the best.”

“I think it is about having belief in the players. We have got a strong nucleus. I’m the type of coach who has always worked really hard, not because I do it better than anyone else but because that is what I believe the most important thing is. I’m very demanding of myself, I’m passionate and I really want to transmit that to the people around me – that we can, and must, improve in the future. That is the kind of the thing I want to transmit, that desire to be better and I think that will lead us to improve in the Premier League and in Europe.”

It seems Unai Emery has done his homework before arriving at Arsenal. It’s a bold statement by the new Gunners boss. Let’s see how good he turns up next season against the odds. He hasn’t got much to spend in summer transfer market and he’ll be competing against Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp, Manchester United’s Jose Mourinho, Tottenham Hotspurs’ Mauricio Pochettino, and whoever arrives at Chelsea next season if Antonio Conte leaves.

It will be Spaniard’s first test among the best. Premier League is right now about the great managers and not about the great teams. Let’s see how good Unai Emery proves himself among the best.
