Mauro Icardi has another usual day in business as he hits a brace. Inter Milan register a 3-0 victory over Verona with the help of Argentine striker brace. Icardi continues to prove that he should be Argentina no.9 at FIFA World Cup Russia 2018, no matter how different La Albicelsete thinks of him.
Inter Milan captain fresh from his four-goal fest against Sampdoria continues his form against Verona. He scored within the first minute of the match scoring in the 38th second. The relegation-threatened team didn’t even settle and Nerazzurri were 1-0 up.
Ivan Perisic added Inter’s second in the 13th minute to give a 2-0 lead. Verona didn’t even settle in second-half and Icardi again hurt them. He scored his second in the 48th minute in the second-half to take his league tally to 24 goals equaling league leader Lazio’s Ciro Immobile. However, Ciro extended his goal tally to 26 later with his brace in Lazio’s 6-2 victory over Benevento.
Icardi describes it as a perfect day. Football Italia reports as Icardi said in his post-match, “It’s a perfect day, but not because of my goals. The truth is that we have given consistency to our performances. It’s obvious that I’m happy with the goal at record speed. We know what we need to do well. There isn’t long to go in the season and we want to reach the Champions League.”
Inter Milan currently sits at fourth on Serie A table. And they want to maintain that position to solidify their position as Champions League place competitor. Nerazzurri will play their next match against cross-city rival AC Milan in Derby Della Madonnina.
AC Milan is in good form as well under their new manager Gennaro Gattuso. Inter need their front man to firing from all cylinders and till now Icardi has delivered. Taking a jibe on his Argentina’s selection, Inter no.9 said, “I don’t know, I’m just doing my best for Inter. I see the national team as the bonus.”
In other matches of Serie A, AS Roma played a dull 1-1 draw against Bologna earlier in the day. Whereas, fifth-placed Lazio registered a 6-2 victory over Benevento. It was a bad day for Serie A title challenger Napoli who settled for a 1-1 draw against Sassuolo. They really needed a victory to put pressure on Serie A leader Juventus who will have a tough night against AC Milan later, but they failed miserably to put pressure on.
