FIFA come up with “THE Best FIFA Fan Award”, which will also be presented during THE Best Award ceremony every year from 2016 onwards. Today FIFA announces the nominees of inaugural FIFA Fan Award, voting for which will be opened till 9th of January, the day of the THE Best Award ceremony. The three fan moments, which got the nod of star-studded panel comprising Gabriel Batistuta, Zvonimir Boban, Marta and Vladimir Petkovic are outstanding celebratory gestures from three different outings of fans, which includes joint support of Liverpool & Borussia Dortmund fans, ADO Den Haag supporters, and Iceland national team supporters.

Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund supporters came together to unite in harmony, singing the anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, made popular by the Merseyside giants, in their UEFA Europa League clash a day before the 27th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, got the nod of the panel. Dortmund suffered 4-3 defeat at Anfield that day, and got knocked out of the tournament, and Liverpool advances into semi-final, but Dortmund fans support for the Hillsborough disaster didn’t go unnoticed.

ADO Den Haag supporter’s unconventional way to back Rotterdam’s Sophia Children’s Hospital, by dropping soft toys from the upper tier of Feyenoord’s De Kuip stadium to grateful children below got the second nod of the panel.

Whereas 2016 most iconic celebration for which Euro 2016 will be remembered came from Iceland national team supporters who joined their players in the now-famous chant-clap combination at UEFA EURO 2016. A particularly memorable performance took place after Iceland had been eliminated by hosts France in the quarter-finals, with close to eight per cent of the tiny country’s population performing the chant at the Stade de France to show their appreciation for their heroes’ efforts.
