Joseph Maria Minguella, football’s super agent has sensed the storm coming for FC Barcelona. The 72-year-old super agent who has discovered the players like Maradona, Stoichkov, Rivaldo and Lionel Messi has lately been a criticizer of Barcelona. He condemned Los Cules decision to spend the horrendous amount on Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho, announcing it as panic call after Neymar departure. And after FC Barcelona elimination from Uefa Champions League at the hands of underdogs AS Roma, he reminds them of Monchi’s importance.

AS Roma miracle in Rome after the 4-1 debacle at Camp Nou

Ramon Rodriguez Verdejo (Monchi) is currently the director of football at AS Roma. Joseph Maria Minguella reminds of Monchi because he offered Barcelona a chance to sign him during his stay at Sevilla. Minguella recalled that a year and a half ago he recommended Barcelona’s President Josep Maria Bartomeu to sign Monchi as Barcelona’s football director.

Spanish news agency AS reports as Minguella told El Partidazo de Copa, “I want to remind the president of Barca that he was in my house for more than an hour and I said to him: ‘you have to change the sports structure of the club, it cannot be coaches pick the players, like Arda, Aleix Vidal… with many of those players who will remain at the club after the coach leaves.” Then what would you do, “I would bring Monchi in. Monchi is going to leave Sevilla, he has an offer from Italy and another from England and he’d go crazy in Barcelona.”

Monchi proves AS Roma is more than a Supermarket

Bartomeu may have had his reasons to not hire Monchi, but former Sevilla director proved him wrong after Roma eliminated them on Tuesday. Monchi was criticized to make Roma a supermarket last summer, but he must be praised now for his effort. It’s his choice of players and coach who brought a change at Giallorossi. It has reaped the benefits a year later as they eliminate the mighty Barca.

Minguella also adds, “Barcelona elimination at the hands of AS Roma will give them a big blow. Barcelona in recent months and I would say in years have made wrong decisions in hiring and they were expensive too. The Barca signing policy is horrendous because players don’t last forever, Messi won’t last forever. Barcelona have signed 13 players and spent €600 million which is a monstrosity, and when you see the lineup they still play the same three years ago.”
