Jorge Sampaoli’s experimenting Argentina was shown the exit door by Spain. La Roja humiliated the 2014 World Cup runners-up 6-1 at Wanda Metropolitano. Isco Alarcon scored his first career hat-trick for Spain to keep his suitors alert, while Argentina were warned about their Russia 2018 preparation.

Argentina faced one of the title favorite Spain at Wanda Metropolitano today. Once again, La Albiceleste were without their talismanic player Lionel Messi. It was another experimenting night for Argentina’s boss Jorge Sampaoli. He changed his playing XI who proved to be the winner against Italy on Friday.

Too much job and little less of time for Jorge Sampaoli

Sergio Romero takes place of Willy Caballero in goalkeeping position, although Romero lasted only 22 minutes on the pitch. Marcos Rojo and Javier Mascherano were back in the side along with Independiente midfielder Maximiliano Meza. Giovani Lo Celso was again given the chance to occupy Messi’s position.

Argentina could have got the start but Gonzalo Higuain missed another early sitter just like he missed against Germany in 2014 World Cup final. On the other side of the pitch, Diego Costa gave an early lead to Spain a minute later. It opens the floodgate for Spain as they thrashed Argentina 6-1.

Argentina victory over Italy didn’t convince much

Isco scored Spain’s second before Nicolas Otamendi pulled one back for Argentina. But, it was one rare moment for La Albiceleste, otherwise, Spain completely dominated the match. Isco and Thiago Alcantara tear apart Argentina’s defense as they go on the scoresheet for the third and fourth goal. Thiago Aspas coming from the bench scored Spain’s fifth to book his place in Spain squad going to Russia. And with enough time left to add to the humiliation, Isco grabbed his hat-trick to make it 6-1 for Spain.

It ends Jorge Smapaoli’s experiment with the Argentina squad. It’s only three months left in World Cup preparation and Argentina’s boss is still experimenting with his squad. He hasn’t given a call to the stars who are performing in Europe’s top division instead he has opted for players playing in Argentina’s domestic league.

Stars like Paulo Dybala and Mauro Icardi are sitting out just because they can’t adapt to his system. But, today’s humiliation proved he doesn’t have a system in place. Argentina loses the ball too easily. Spain takes advantage of the less experienced player in Argentina squad and they hurt them on the counter-attack.

It’s a learning time for Sampaoli. He couldn’t experiment with a team choosing the different players for each game. There are only three months left in the final showdown. Russia 2018 can’t be won with his experimentation. They need some steadiness. A relationship can be built over the time playing together.

Why Dybala can’t go to Russia? He should be going to at least as Messi replacement. If they can’t play together, at least when Messi won’t be available he can make the difference. Even Messi himself has said that it’s last chance for his generation of players to win the World Cup, why not stick with them for the one last time. Stop experimenting and allow them to play together more, otherwise, the exit door has already been shown by Spain.
