Inter Milan gave a late reminder to Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur must be finding themselves in a very comfortable position after Christian Eriksen gave them the lead in 53rd minute, but Inter Milan gave them a late reminder that they are three time UEFA Champions League winner. It doesn’t matter if they haven’t played in the competition in the last six years, history speaks itself for them. Mauro Icardi and Matias Vecino late goals helped Inter Milan to turn the table and gave his fans at San Siro something to cheer in the end.

Nobody likes a home defeat, especially in the Champions League because it defines your season. if you lose at home, your morale is always low as a visitor and it makes difficult to pull a result away from home.

Inter Milan were playing in the competition after six years. They needed a home victory to keep their morale high and it’s a bonus that it came that way. It shows their fighting spirit as they bounced back from a goal down with little time left to make an impact.

Nerazzurri captained Mauro Icardi starting his first game scored a perfect volley to put the game on level term and Matias Vecino’s last gasp goal proved that Inter can match anyone.

Icardi told Sky Italia in his post match comment, “We know we’re a strong team and that we can compete against anyone. We have been waiting for this match for three months and it gives us a lot of strength for the league. A match like that, in the Champions League, gives us so much but one game means nothing. We have to stay calm, take the good things we’ve done and go to play on Saturday with a different mentality.”

Inter Milan captain also adds on the goals scored. He said, “Everyone was in the box but I stayed out. [Kwadwo] Asamoah sent a fantastic ball over and it ended well. it was a spectacular afternoon, and we did what we needed to do.”

“The environment was ugly in these past few weeks, but a game like this gives us confidence. Vecino has popped up like that for two crucial wins, but what’s most important is for Inter to win.”
