Manchester City skips ahead of Spurs and Barcelona in transfer value rankings

CIES Football Observatory weekly reports 202 ranked Big-5 league clubs according to the estimated transfer value of their players. The aggregated value of the current squad members stands above billion for only four clubs. Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona and Chelsea are the four teams having an accumulated transfer value above billion for their squad.

Manchester City tops the chart with 1.2 billion transfer value of the current squad members. There are four City players who join the million dollar club including Kevin de Bruyne, Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus. De Bruyne proved to be the most valued City player with an estimated transfer value of €144.5 million.

Tottenham Hotspur is second on the list with 1.17 billion transfer value of the current squad members. Harry Kane is Tottenham most prized possession with €186 million transfer value, whereas teammate Dele Alli is not far behind.

FC Barcelona sits at third with 1.13 billion transfer value and Luis Suarez is their most valued player with €134 million transfer price. Lionel Messi, Ousmane Dembele, Gerard Deulofeu and Andre Gomes are some of the most valued player in Barcelona squad, but Suarez transfer value ranked above Messi can be questioned.

Chelsea valued at 1.04 billion, and Eden Hazard is their most prized possession with €121 million transfer value. The Blues’ 26-member-squad includes some of the highly ranked players including; goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, centre-back pair of David Luiz & Antonio Rudiger, N’golo Kante, Alvaro Morata, etc.

It’s surprising that Real Madrid squad’s transfer value is below billion dollar, even they are ranked below Manchester United. Manchester United’s most valuable player is Romelu Lukaku with a price tag of €165 million, whereas Cristiano Ronaldo is Real Madrid’s most valued player with €96 million.

PSG is eighth on the list with €864 million squad value. It’s no surprise that PSG is ranked 8th, despite Neymar is valued worth €218 million. Kylian Mbappe could have increased PSG value into billions, but his value couldn’t be included in PSG squad value because he is serving the club as a loaned player.

Juventus find their name at 10th place, despite Paulo Dybala transfer value of €166 million. Gonzalo Higuain, Miralem Pjanic and Juan Cuadrado are most valuable playable other than Dybala in Juventus’ 25-member-squad.

Bayern Munich doesn’t find a place in top 10, although they have players in the squad who are most valuable players in the world. Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller, Thiago, Corentin Tolisso,Manuel Neuer, Mats Hummels, Niklas Sule, David Alaba, etc. are the most valued players in Bavarians’ squad and it’s surprising that they didn’t find their place in top 10 of CIES Observatory most valued squad.
