Leicester City, the champion of English Premier League 2015/16 season, has a daunting task to retain their championship. Well, it was a dream come true, and it won’t be possible for Leicester to do it again, but Coach Claudio Ranieri is not the one who gives up. He has a self-imposed pressure on himself to retain the title.
Odds checker odds says Leicester has 33-1 chance to win the league, and 14-1 chance to get relegated. But, the optimism in Leicester City stakeholders are too high, they all have risked their high flying time with staying there where they belong rather than grabbing the opportunity which would have fancied them.
N’Golo Kante is the only player who made a wise move to Chelsea, but other star players choose to stay to get a chance to play in Champions League. Jamie vardy turned down the Arsenal move, Riyad Mahrez has turned the offer of few best European clubs as well. Claudio Ranieri, the coach himself renewed his contract instead of taking retirement on a high. Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, the owner of Leicester City become sentimental after winning the league, and not ready to sell the club when he has the best chance to sell being more valuable than ever.
We can see all these leads to a cohesiveness in the group, and spirits are very high, taking into consideration the club future. They think that Leicester can do a Leicester once again. But, is it going to happen in this mad world?
All the leading clubs of England, and EPL fancy sides have taken a leap forward, making no mistake like last year. They are head-hunting to grab the best talent for their teams, they have hired Europe’s best managers to lead them and it seems like this season EPL will be bigger than ever. Do you think a lowly side like Leicester hold a chance this year?
Even Ranieri self-imposed pressure on himself to retain title is in doubt, Ranieri, who signed a new contract until 2020 on Wednesday, believes all the “big teams” faltering in the same campaign “only happens once in a lifetime”.
“Of course the big teams are ready to fight for the title, we are ready to defend our title but we know it is a difficult gap – last season we made something unbelievable.”
“It’s easier for ET to come to Piccadilly Circus,” said the Italian.
“It is impossible. It is more difficult than last season. It is normal that we can’t win the league. For this reason I say the bookmakers must do 6,000-1. I am very curious, all the world is curious, what will happen with Leicester. I am very curious to see where we finish.” added Ranieri.
That describes his thoughts on his own self-imposed pressure. He can see the danger from his eyes, but he is not ready to give up against his instinct. There is no going back, he is ready to fight for the championship once again, and his test will start on Saturday against Hull City.
