Barcelona stretches their unbeaten record to 39 La Liga games breaking Real Sociedad’s long-held 38 games unbeaten run

Barcelona defeated Valencia 2-1 at Camp Nou to continue their winning streak in La Liga. It breaks Real Sociedad long-held record of 38 games unbeaten run as Blaugrana goes 39 games unbeaten. Barcelona camp needed a positive result after suffering Uefa Champions League elimination at the hands of AS Roma in midweek, and it came against Valencia. It was unconvincing but an important victory for Barcelona.

Los Cules needed to bounce back from their 3-0 defeat against Roma in midfield. It’s for the million fans, the morale of the team and to prove themselves their ability to bounce back after difficult situations. Luis Suarez and Samuel Umtiti’s goal served the purpose despite Valencia being a better side for the 90 minutes.

Valencia had many chances to go on the scoresheet and they could have won the match but they weren’t clinical enough. The saying goes Barcelona always gives you chances, you only need to be clinical with your strikes. The clinical factor was missing from Lo Che forwards as most of the chances go begging.

Goncalo Guedes and Rodrigo wasted many opportunities with Marc-Andre ter-Stegen alert in Barcelona goalkeeping gloves. It helped Barcelona to capitalize on their chances and Coutinho returning in the playing XI created both of Barcelona goals.

Coutinho saw Luis Suarez making a run in the box and Brazilian served a clinical pass to help Uruguayan scores his 23 league goal. In the meantime, Rodrigo wasted a couple of opportunities for Valencia being less clinical with his strikes.

Barcelona looked terrorized by Goncalo Guedes and Santi Mina’s forward run. Los Che had a very good chance when Mina took advantage of Samuel Umtiti’s slip. He crossed to Rodrigo who was in one to one situation with Ter Stegen, but Rodrigo made a bad decision to play the ball to German’s right where Gerard Pique came lurking to clear the ball.

Coutinho once again calmed the situation with his corner ball. Brazilian served a very good ball inside the box and Umtiti connected well to give Barcelona 2-0 lead. Barcelona nearly got their third as Lionel Messi found Andre Iniesta near post with his cross, but the veteran acrobatic strike was well saved by Neto.

However, it was Dani Parejo who amends Los Che forwards earlier errors. Dembele brought down Carlos Soler in the penalty area and Parejo converted from the spot. Ter Stegen made a good attempt to save but the ball still rolled into the net.

It put Los Cules in the pressure again but Messi almost helped them to avoid the situation. In a counter-attack move starting from Messi allowed substitute Denis Suarez to go on the scoresheet but he wasted the opportunity playing the ball straight at Neto’s body.

Somehow Barcelona managed a 2-1 victory, but all was not well for Barcelona fans. It was an important victory but far from convincing.
