Argentina's new coach Edgardo Bauza's selection dilemma after Messi, Aguero and Pastore injuries

The new Argentina’s football team coach Edgardo Bauza debut for La Albiceleste is not going to be as starry as he would have expected after meeting Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano in Barcelona earlier in the month. The big name from the squad are missing in the name of Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain, Javier Pastore and Lionel Messi is also likely to miss. Aguero is not likely to take any risk with his left-calf injury and withdrew his name from the squad, whereas Pastore has not taken part for PSG against Monaco game due to right calf-injury and not likely to travel to Argentina. Higuain was not selected in Bauza 27 men squad for the qualifiers, and Messi has a hamstring problem from the game against Athletic Bilbao.

“A report on tests performed on Monday, and as approved by the FC Barcelona Medical Services and the Argentinian Football Association, has confirmed that Leo Messi has hurt his left hamstring. The player is travelling to Argentina to join the national team for World Cup qualifying matches at home to Uruguay and away to Venezuela, and his presence in those matches will depend on how the injury develops.” as quoted on FC Barcelona official website.

There is big worries for Argentina national coach Edgardo Bauza as he take the helm as La Albiceleste coach in his first competitive match. Argentina will play their 7th and 8th world cup qualifier match in this international break against Uruguay on 2nd of September and Venezuela on 8th Sept. Argentina currently sit on 3rd spot with 11 points from six matches behind Uruguay and Ecuador. The top four teams after 18 matches will go through to the Russia finals while the fifth-placed team will play an intercontinental playoff for one more berth.

Argentina need a win from these fixtures to strengthen their position on top, but losing out crucial players due to injury worries may affect the Blue and White preparation against the world cup qualifier’s leaders Uruguay. There is no report from AFA official site about the replacement of injured Aguero and Pastore, while Messi has travelled but his situation will be examined again, is he fit to play or not.
