Rooney bounced back restoring faith in himself

When criticism comes, it comes from every part of your life, be it your professional or personal life. Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney situation was no different, he got dropped out of the United squad, and faced criticism about being drunk and ruining someone’s wedding. But, he is back into business, scoring goals, creating chances and breaking records. Rooney scored the opening goal in crucial Europa League contest against Feyenoord, to become united most goal scorer in European competition. He broke the record of Ruud Van Nistelrooy 38 goal records in European competition, moving to 39 goals with his strike. He is also one short of becoming United top scorer, as he scored his 248th goal for The Red Devils. Sir Bobby Charlton currently holds the record of United top scorer with 249 goals.

Rooney has bounced back restoring faith in himself, and Jose Mourinho have to be little more patient with him. Mourinho dropped Rooney in some matches this season, but when he found he is short of options, and Rooney has delivered coming off from the bench, United manager forced to play his captain. Captain hasn’t disappointed, and Mourinho’s giving credit to being unlucky in some of the matches has taken the pressure off from the players.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan who got only his second start for the club after summer transfer from Borussia Dortmund, made his contribution felt as well. He was the man of the match, and he shared his enthusiasm saying,“It was a pleasure to play again. It’s been very difficult watching the team from the side but you have to have passion and work hard to try and take your next chance,”. When asked if it was a new start, he said: “I hope so.” BBC reported.

After 4-0 result against Feyenoord in which Rooney was key to every goal scored before getting substituted, Rooney got his boss backing. Rooney scored the opener linking up with Zlatan Ibrahimovic who himself has been criticized for not scoring consistently. Rooney got the through ball pass from Ibrahimovic, and he clipped over Brad Jones to score his 39 European continental goal for Manchester United. In second-half he also set up Juan Mata making contribution in team build-up goal. Third was an own goal by Brad Jones own goal to make hosts path easier, and Jesses Lingard completed the 4-0 goal haul in stoppage-time.

Manchester United still need a point to make it top 32 of Europa League, and they can do so beating or drawing against Zorya Luhansk in their final game. Till then United have a task at home against Westham United in two consecutive matches, first in Premier League on weekend and then in midweek in EFL Cup quarter-final tie.

Mourinho made clear Rooney has got some more years of football in him,“People like him [Rooney] don’t need to answer any more, just enjoy a few more years of his career and playing the best he can. That’s what he tries to do. More important is the fact we need one point to qualify.”
