Europa League, Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, Lazio, RB Leipzig,

Europa League quarterfinals first-leg followed by Uefa Champions League quarterfinals tie today. The eight competing team looking to move forward in Europe’s second-tier championship proved their potential. Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, and Lazio take a major leap forward against CSKA Moscow, Sporting Lisbon, and Red Bull Salzburg respectively, whereas RB Leipzig vs Marseille game hung in balance.

Arsenal registered a thumping a 4-1 victory at home against CSKA Moscow. It left the Russian team to do a lot of homework before they host Gunners at home next week. Aaron Ramsey and Alexandre Lacazette, both braces themselves to keep Arsenal hope alive of winning their first European trophy. All five goals in the game were scored in first-half.

Atletico Madrid made their task simple at home against Sporting Lisbon with Koke first-minute strike. Antoine Griezmann made it 2-0 in the 40th minute and they hold on to their lead to whole 90 minutes. Sporting Lisbon is a good team but few teams can go past Atletico defense and it was certainly not Lisbon today. They can make a difference next week in Portugal, but Atletico is more likely to advance to the semifinal.

The Italian team Lazio showed some determination and resist Borussia Dortmund’s eliminator to put pressure on them. Red Bull lost 4-2 in Italy, although they have two away goals to boast about before challenging Lazio at home next week. Senad Lulic, Marco Parolo, Felipe Anderson, and Ciro Immobile all go on the scoresheet to see off the Austrian dark horses.

RB Leipzig vs Marseille game hung in balance with Leipzig 1-0 victory at home. Marseille would be happy with 1-0 scoreline as they will play next week second-leg at home. Timo Werner scored the sole goal of the match in order to keep his team debut journey in Europe alive.
