Euro 2016 round of 16 has been completed and now all eyes will be on quarterfinals. Here, we will discuss about the chances of quarter-finalists to make it to the semifinals. In first quarterfinal on 1st of July Portugal will play Poland. In second quarterfinal Wales will play against Belgium on 2nd of July. Third will see two of the giants of Europe Germany vs Italy, face off on 3rd of July. In last quarterfinal on 4th of July, host France will take on Iceland.

Portugal vs Poland :

In first quarterfinal Portugal will be up against Poland in Stade Vélodrome, Marseille on 1st of July at 12:30 Am IST. Both team has somehow managed to reach at this stage, whereas Poland advances on penalty against Switzerland, Portugal registered last minute win over Croatia in extra-time.

Poland win against Switzerland came on penalty and Portugal was only three minutes away from penalty when Ricardo Quaresma scored. Both of them didn’t have a good game, they both were not the team to be there. Poland has an advantage, they didn’t concede any goal in group stage. There was only one occasion they were beaten in defence when Xherdan Shaqiri (Swiss Messi) produce the sheer magic.

Portugal has conceded in every match except the one played against Austria which ended 0-0. It means Portugal defence is weak, and Hungary made the most of it playing 3-3 draw. Portugal couldn’t produce anything if Ronaldo won’t get the ball to deliver his best. A tight & disciplined defence can keep him mum because he is playing offside consistently.

Big guns need to fire for both teams

For Poland Blaszczykowski, Krychowiak, Milik & Lewandowski can cause threat to any opponents specially when Blaszczykowski run from right side. And in Portugal Quaresma, Nani and Ronaldo will be key for their further advancement in Euro 2016.

Portugal rely on consistent run from both sides winger. Nani and Ronaldo changes their flank and very good on counter-attacks. They can hurt any team when Ronaldo will be in his mood but he has only showed his class in one match against Hungary. He scored twice against them and assisted one for Nani, although he was the reason Quaresma scored against Croatia but it wasn’t Ronaldo’s best day. Croatia managed to keep ball away from him.

Blaszczykowski & Krychowiak display is important for Poland, if they want to go farther into the tournament.Robert Lewandowski hasn’t open the scoring for Poland, in that case Milik took good care in forward department and their back four is rock solid, still need to be tested.

Poland do have an advantage, being an organized side but you can’t underestimate Portugal who has been led by Cristiano Ronaldo himself. Selecção’s has reached to quarterfinal stage sixth time since Uefa European championship has introduced this stage, more than any country. They have the advantage of big match experience but this Euro 2016 has shown some quality football coming from new arrivals, Poland will have an edge there.
