Italy sent champion Spain home after 2-0 thumping win over the old rival Spain. Italy vs Spain, one of the most talked game in knockouts ended in Italy favors. Italy knocked out the champion Spain and took a sweet revenge of their lost final four years ago. Spain didn’t find the net in 90′ minutes and Italy scored two goals to get past holders Spain challenge to book their berth in quarterfinals. Italy will be playing next to world champion Germany.

Spain’s 8 years of reigning champion journey ends, two back to back Uefa European championship and looking to make their hatrrick Spain failed in knockouts. It’s Italy who will progress on their expense and a well deserved victory.

Chiellini  scored in 33th minute to gave Italy lead with Eder low kicked free-kick which De Gea couldn’t kept in his hands. Then Insigne in injury time drilled a majestic crossfield pass to Darmian on the right. He moved into the area and stabbed a low cross that was deflected up to Pelle, and he volleyed it in from a few yards to make it 2-0.


Italy dethroned the holders Spain with a splendid display of footballing action. Spain 8 year of champions run ended with 2-0 humiliating defeat by 2012 finalist Italy, who were humiliated by Spain 4-0 in 2012 final. Italy got the revenge and played the outstanding match to remember it for decades.

Spain had a golden chance to equalize right at the death through Gerard Pique but Gianluigi Buffon was alert to the danger, making a brilliant save before Graziano Pelle’s strike sealed victory in injury time. Iniesta, Fabregas, Silva, Ramos and Pique all failed to deliver and Spain seems like a sinking boat.

Spain same old fashioned football is not working anymore, specially when there is no creativity in the current players, passing is not that smooth and quite predictable. Spain’s glory lasted long but it didn’t get the deserved honor, a humiliating group stage elimination in 2014 world cup and out from Euro 2016 in knockouts.

Italy sent champions home and marched ahead in a battle with another champion to book their place in semifinals. Italy will play Germany in quarterfinal on 2nd of July.
