Argentina get past Venezuela challenge

Argentina get passed Venezuela with an ease. 4-1 victory against Venezuela. Argentina will face US in the semi-final and hope they get past USMNT with an ease just as they did against Venezuela. Lionel Messi scored his 54th international goal to equal Gabriel Batistuta

Argentina get past Venezuela challenge with an ease to book their berth in Copa America semi-final. Argentina defeated Venezuela 4-1 to book their place in semi-final to play against the host US. La Albiceleste were lethal on attack with presence of Messi at front. Venezuela did played well but they didn’t have any answers to Messi’s game. Messi created one goal for Gonzalo Higuain, then scored one himself and assisted Erik Lamela as well to wrap up the scoring. Salomon Rondon scored the consolation goal for Venezuela to end Argentina two consecutive clean sheet performances.

It was only nine minutes in the game, Messi picked it up 40 yards from goal, and bent a just stunning pass over the defence, into Higuain’s path, who made the run and tucked it under Hernandez to score. Higuain scored his first goal of the tournament, but the pass was more imperious than the goal scored,  hats off to Messi.

In 21′ minute Messi goes down in penalty box, with a tackle from behind by Figuera but referee denies penalty. It looked pretty clear. “It’s a penalty,” says Fifa match commissioner Dr Joe Machnik on Fox.  In 29′ Higuain served himself brace with a sloppy pass from Venezuela defence which got a touch of Higuain feet only to tap in a empty net. Venezuela did have their chances but Sergio Romero outstanding goalkeeping and Luis Seijas terrible penalty-kick keep Venezuela at bay from scoring.

Lionel Messi scored his 54th international goal to equal Gabriel Batistuta by poking through Hernandez’s legs in 60′ minute, and made an assist for substitute Lamela to score in 71′ minute. Messi is now the leading goal scorer in tournament with 4 goals in three appearances. Salomon Rondon scored for Venezuela, which he deserved but it came late to jeopardize La Albiceleste. Argentina are through to the semi-final for second consecutive time in consecutive years.

La Albiceleste will face US in Semi-final

La Albiceleste has given a terrific performance throughout the tournament. They have scored 14 goals in 4 games to reach to the semi-final. They will face next USA in semi-final in Houston on Tuesday. US has the advantage of playing at home but the kind of form Argentine are maintaining it will not be an easy task for US to get past them. Argentina will make sure not to miss this time Copa America title which is a 23 years drought for them.

Messi in action against Venezuela

USMNT will be missing their key players due to bookings in quarter-final which makes it more worrying for them. Argentina who are in full flow would love to take on the USA which may not be of much concern to them with due respect to US, but it’s a semi-final and anything can happen. There is no sure shot but Argentina will be favored and it may be an end to the USMNT journey as host in Copa America Centenario.

Argentina will play US in semi-final and Colombia will face the winner of Mexico vs Chile match. The competition is getting tougher and if defending champion Chile advances and if they win against Colombia in semi-final, we will have same fixture as 2015 Copa America final. Argentina will be facing Chile once again in yet another final and Messi wouldn’t excuse them and they are certainly going to be punished. But, before that to happen, Argentina will face US in the semi-final and hope they get past USMNT with an ease just  as they did against Venezuela.
