Stephen El Sharaawy braces himself to knockdown Chelsea

Chelsea didn’t learn a lesson from Stamford Bridge 3-3 draw against AS Roma and loses 3-0 at Stadio Olimpicio in Rome, Italy. Italy hasn’t been a good host for The Blues and having an Italian manager on sidelines didn’t help them. They have managed only one victory in nine attempts at Italian soil, dated way back in 2003/04 season, a 4-0 victory against Lazio.

Roma counting on Italian sides’ supremacy over Chlesea in their last three visits managed to pull an overwhelming night in Rome on Tuesday. They completely outclass the Antonie Conte’s Chelsea side. Conte must have observed the Roma’s attacking prowess when his team was trailing 3-1 at Stamford Bridge, and he knew a night at Stadio Olimpicio is going to be a challenge.

Standing true to their motives, Roma once again produced a scintillating performance. They put Chelsea on backfoot from the very first minute. It wasn’t former Manchester City’s striker Edin Dzeko who hurts Chelsea this time; it was 25-year-old Italian Stephen El Sharaawy.

El Sharaawy smashed into the near top corner in 44th second of the match to score Roma’s fastest ever Uefa Champions League goal. It came as a warning for the Blues as they knew it’s going to be another disastrous night in Italy, but they didn’t learn from it. El Sharaawy capitalized on another defensive error from the Blues’ defence and grabbed his second of the night in 36th minute.

Diego Perotti earned the third for Roma in 63rd minute after Cesc Fabregas loses the ball in the middle. It gave Roma 3-0 lead which they maintained throughout the game, not making the mistake they made at Stamford Bridge.

This time they rely on their defences and get the result they wanted. Roma proved to be hungrier than Chelsea to qualify for the knockout stage after their last season debacle. Roma lost 1-4 aggregate against FC Porto in Champions League play-off rounds last season, and suffered a cruel 4-5 aggregate defeat against Lyon in Europa League round of 16 after being considered as favourite for the tournament.

Roma wouldn’t take any chances this time and would love to qualify for knockout in next group game against Qarabag, whereas Chelsea will have to battle out against Atletico Madrid. Group C is going to be a triple threat match and if Roma will qualify as group C winner, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid will have to fight for runners up position.
