I said Liverpool will be more burdensome at Etihad and it was true. Manchester City has nothing to lose, they have already lost, and there was only a chance to give a fight back. However, Liverpool had everything to lose. Their European glory, their experience in Uefa Champions League, and their 3-0 advantage from first-leg, all would have gone if Manchester City’s thunderstorm would have stayed on the pitch for 90 minutes. Thankfully Manchester City’s perfect game only survived for 45 minutes and Liverpool win the game 2-1 and with 5-1 aggregate reaches semis.
Manchester City had a perfect start. They already had a goal in the net before Liverpool would have settled on the pitch. The first-half 45 minutes felt like a half never going to lose. City played the most part of the games in Liverpool’s half. Guardiola’s side was unlucky to not be on level term before first-half ended.
Bernardo Silva hit the crossbar with a stunning strike and Leroy Sane was wrongly disallowed a goal when he was judged offside although James Milner played him onside. It was a mammoth first-half for the Reds. They didn’t have the ball to play their games and City were attacking from everywhere. Leroy Sane was often caught offside otherwise it would have been a difficult night for Liverpool.
Sane, Sterling, Kevin de Bruyne, David Silva caused all type of problem for the Reds in the first-half. But thankfully that storm only survived for 45 minutes and Liverpool were allowed to play their normal games in second-half.
Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah combined well in the 56th minute and ends City revival. Salah scored in the second-leg as well just like first-leg after Mane’s hard work. And with Liverpool’s goal, City’s fight ended as they were left to do an impossible task. They were supposed to score four goals with half an hour of game left and to add to the pain Firmino added second for Liverpool capitalizing on Nicolas Otamendi’s error.
Jurgen Klopp continuing his better run against Pep Guardiola earned supremacy in Uefa Champions League as well. Liverpool joined AS Roma in the semifinals as Giallorossi did a miracle in Rome. Roma handed Barcelona 3-0 defeat and wins the tie on away goal with 4-4 aggregate result.
